I tell ya, undertakers are raking it in. Went to them today to sort out lettering on mum's headstone. Thought it might be a couple of hundred quid, three max. £720.

175 for refitting, 20 for two new pots, 120 for dads re-lettering (to match mum's) 350 for mum's and the absolute pisser...55 permit fee to council (cunts I work for) to put the stone (I own) back on the plot (I also own).

I have do this as well. Add her name and the stone could use a good cleaning. I will be calling soon for prices. I am sure it’s not cheap.
At least my Aunt caught the “over charge” from the funeral home. About $3000

Today I bought a plot. It cost me £1407. The one at the side of it my dad bought for £8 in 1968. I found out only after burying mum in Jan you can't have 3 in a plot any longer in this cemetery, 2 and cremated remains only. I hate the idea of cremation so it's worth the price to me. This particular cemetery is nearly full. Pure fluke the space at the side was still empty (they are buried in the older bit of the cemetery). Maybe there was someone there donkeys years back? Anyway I might go lie on it tomorrow and see if it's comfy.

Have you got a plot sorted if you want to be buried? Are yours nearly full where you are? It's a concern innit!

Or praps you're going for a fiery end?

I do understand that for many people, burying their loved ones in a plot is important, because they regularly go their to visit the departed person, as they call it, and it gives them solace.
I have a different feeling on this subject. First, when a person dies, they are gone, and the corpse they leave behind has no meaning or significance, it is a handful of chemicals and water, which will soon decompose, its native elements becoming fertilizer for the next generation of living things. The person you knew and loved lives on in your heart.
The second reason I don't believe in buying caskets, plots, etc. is that it is very expensive, and I really believe that money is meant for the living. For example, there are children in my family. To me it makes much more sense to leave the money a casket and burial would have cost to those children, whose whole lives are still ahead of them, and to whom that money will be useful.
So, as you've by now guessed, I've opted for cremation. Let them toss my dead ass in an incinerator and then, as I have specified in my last will and testament, bury the ashes on my property and plant a tree over it. That's the cycle of life--life leading to death leading to new life.

But for me personally I've held those hands for 54 years, looked at that face etc...I can't just incinerate it. It still holds meaning and significance. But that's just me. Also I like to go to the grave with flowers etc to honour them. Maybe it's the old Catholic upbringing in there too but I'm certainly not religious any more so maybe not.

Fucking expensive business though for sure.

My Mom wanted be buried next to my Dad, so that is what I did. Seeing I am in another country, I haven’t been back since the burial as of yet.
I think most of the family of her generation have had the traditional funeral and burial. Cremation is perhaps more popular with our generation.
I still vote mausoleum. I don’t want to be under the ground or burnt. Just in case.,..

I'd like to donate my left overs to a Corpse Farm, you know where the scientists lay your left overs out and study how and what happens as it disappears. Maybe leaned up against a tree with a nice view, wrapped up in a nice shag carpet from the 70's.

I signed my organ donor card. It's noted on my OHIP so hospitals are aware of my wishes. If I help just one person when I die my life was well worth living. After they harvest your organs you're tossed in an incinerator with other deceased organ donors and a memorial is held for the multiple families if they wish to attend.

I want to be cremated, my ashes sealed in a very large and heavy safe, with the seems welded shut. Then, I want a very heavy boat chain wrapped around it and also welded in place. The wife and kids will need to lug my ass around for the rest of their days. I will be just as big of a pain in the ass in death as I was in life.
