"They are hoping that I tire of the fight before too long. I know that." Kate said as Khelt reassured her that what she was doing was for the good of the kingdom. "But they've also never met a queen like me before. They don't know what I stand for and what I will continue to fight for whole they stay on their cozy estates. I won't be scolded and cowed from afar. If they have important business with the crown, they are perfectly capable of coming directly to me, wherever I may be."

While Kate talked tough, she also loved abundantly. Kell knew that above all and had his own ways to make his wife melt until she really was that lovesick young woman that she felt she always was. She was keenly aware that Kell held quite a bit of power when it came to that situation. It was part of her internal struggle and a small battle that she was always willing to lose.

They talked for a while longer before Kate began to grow tired. She was dozing off in her seat, dimly aware that their conversation had long since ceased to be a two sided affair. Being lifted from her seat, Kate woke as Khelt carried her back to bed, making sure to tuck her in with the bed sheets pulled tightly around her.

"You would tell me if Kell were ever upset with me, right?" She murmured softly, the last dredges of conversation fighting their way from her sleep addled brain.

"I'm not his confidant, my dear. You are. He doesn't hide things from you unless it's about your safety. And if you're really that worried, you might ask Qira. He knows your Wolf better than I do." Khelt gave her a gentle smile. "Kell loves you, and that's enough for him." He kissed Kate's forehead before slipping out of sight.

Kate watched as the old wolf disappeared into the shadows, melting into them seamlessly until she couldn't see him any longer. Then, she closed her eyes and finally drifted back to sleep. She knew she was safe in that moment, watched over by the man that would do anything to protect the person his grandson loved so dearly.

The next morning Kate woke and dressed in her usual simple style. The only added addition was a sharp dagger to her belt, out in the open for all to see. If Kell took the trouble to lay out her weapons the evening before, she knew that she better wear them for safety.

As she stepped out of the fort and into the courtyard, she could hear the sounds of men training. Her father's men were under the command of her uncles, both of them watching every move of the Axemen. She could see a few English soldiers speaking to her commanding officers, no doubt making plans for the future of the siege of Alba's lands.

Then there was her husband. He stood with his normal calm air, listening as a man in a decorated English uniform explained something to him. Both men looked relaxed, a conference instead of a confrontation. However, Kate didn't join them. Instead, she caught Kell's gaze and then gave him a nod, turning towards the stables. He would follow shortly if he were able.

Stepping into the tack room, she looked at the various saddles that were available to her as she heard horses restlessly stirring in the stalls beyond. The moment that she felt Kell behind her, she turned and looked at him, motioning for him to close the door behind him.

"I know I've been struggling lately. I know I haven't been easy to deal with." Kate said softly, knowing that she would apologize for everything under the sun if she were able to. "I know that you don't hold anything against me. This is hard. I know what I want to do, but I also know that this situation isn't simply about me anymore. This is about all of Scotland and doing what is best for as many people as possible. Sometimes I feel like I'll forget you in all of that."

She was showing her very soul to her wolf in a way that she never had before. A scared young woman, so uncertain as to what she was doing in this marriage. She knew the roles that her mother and father had and she had been terrible at domestic duties, but a part of her wanted to be able to keep that house for Kell. It was impossible with an entire kingdom to run, but she still worried greatly that one day he would decide that it wasn't good enough any more.

"I need you in the worst way, Kell. I need you...no...desperately want you physically. I'll always want and need that. Beyond that, I know I need you to love me all the more." Kate said softly, her cheeks glowing red at that confession. "I can't live without you."

Kell stood as a looking shadow in his signature full black uniform and his midnight fur, the only light being the gleam of his golden eyes and the dim reflection of the Lord Protector's medal on his chest. He looked down in silence at Kate as she spoke, letting her get it all out before he gathered his thoughts to speak.

"Kate," he began softly, his voice as calm and gentle as if he were coaxing her awake. "I'm with you, all the way. Come hell or high water." He reached out to take her hands in both his own. It was all the answer he could and needed to give her. He was hers and he had long since happily accepted that their life together would be a battle- them versus the world. "I love you more every day. I can't fix everything and I know I can't soothe all these doubts... But you can drop one of them. I'm not going anywhere without you."

“I know it’s too soon to start thinking about a trip away from everything, but when we get back to Edinburgh, we’re planning something nice. Just the two of us.” She said softly before she moved in and kissed her husband properly.

Kate couldn’t help it as she looped her arms around his neck and pulled herself against him. Even the very notion of him being near was enough to soothe her anxiety.

"It's never too soon," Kell murmured, his arms draping about her waist as he gladly welcomed her in. He let their kiss last as long as she liked, hers to command as ever.

When their kiss broke, she looked up into her hisband’ amber gaze and shook her head slightly with a smirk. “A vacation so soon would surely be frowned upon by my lord’s. I’ve only just been crowned, after all.”

Kate kissed him again, her fingers raking through the rough of fur at his neck. She loved the feel of his fur, smooth and coarse at the same time against her skin.

"They can file their complaints straight to me, and I'll explain it clearly," Kell gave her a hint of a smirk in return, his hands slowly slipping down to her thighs as their second kiss lasted even longer. He held her tightly, leaving little chance of escape now that she had his attention.

Kate let out a content sigh as Kell’s hands smoothed over her thighs, moving to capture her tightly against his body to keep her from getting too far away. She had missed him dearly since they had left Edinburgh and there was little that she was going to do now to stop him from continuing.

“I have missed this, eldere.” Kate whispered softly in the quiet of the tack room. “More than I care to admit.”

Kell drew back a hand for a moment to turn the door lock behind him, before turning to back Kate against a saddle atop a wide sawhorse stand. Lifting her off her feet, he set her up on the leather saddle sideways, her knees on either side of his waist.

He gave her exposed throat a nip, growling softly against her skin. "I'm yours."

“Why lock the door? Qira keeps people away.” Kate teased and she found herself on a saddle, her knees on either side of her husband’s hips. “You made sure that he would give us as much privacy as we needed.”

Her fingers were working on the buttons of his coat as she talked, itching to get him naked so that they could continue their activities.

"Just in case he gets too curious," Kell chuckled, though he knew Qira would never do that even if the Panther could pick a lock in seconds. He shrugged off his jacket once she'd unfastened the last button, laying it aside over a stand nearby. His own fingers deftly freed her of her own jacket and shirt in moments, and he stole her boots away before working at her belt and trousers.

She was always in awe of how quickly Kell could have her naked. He wasted no time and put all of his silent skill to good use. She let out a loud gasp as he soon enveloped her, holding her tightly while his lips caressed over her throat and her naked chest pressed against his soft fur.

“Khelt...oh, my love.” She whimpered, tilting her head back to allow him more access.

Kell was soon bare as well, his shaft hard and straining for her touch. He nuzzled into her neck, holding her tightly so she wouldn't fall as he leaned her back. He was secretly just as starved for sexual attention as she was, and he wasted no time in burying his cock to the hilt between her thighs with a deep growl.

Kate could barely contain the cry that burst from her lips as Kell buried himself deeply inside of her body. The moment caused the couple to pause and savor what had been so long in coming. When they were apart, they would long for moments just like this one.

“Is this what we’re resolved to now? Stolen passionate moments not in our warm bed but in a dusty tack room?” Kate whispered, panting as she met her husband’s gaze. “Although I’m sure that a skilled spy such as yourself could do this in much more public spaces without being caught.”

"It's far more exciting this way," Kell told her with a smirk. "And I could have you in the great hall in the middle of the day without anyone knowing. All you have to do is ask." With Kate resting between the saddle and himself, Kell's arms held her in place as his hips went to work. "After all, we got away with some interesting things in Inverness and no one was ever the wiser."

“Because you sought to corrupt me.” Kate countered, gripping him tightly around the hips with her legs and holding onto his fur as he pumped into her body.

The saddle stand beneath her was creaking, but his sure grip told her that even if it broke, she was still in the safety of his arms.

Kell's smirk grew more wicked at her words. "Absolutely." He growled as his pace quickened, their time spent apart making him just a bit impatient. He rarely rushed anything with Kate, but he knew they had plenty of time to do as they pleased.

Kate gasped as her husband gave her that wicked grin that told her he was plotting something. He held her in place as he quickened his pace, his heated kiss making her feel drugged and dizzy. He could make her forget everything going on around them with just a single kiss and she would forever be in awe of him for that ability.

Kate whimpered and moaned as her husband loved her, her sounds as quiet as she could keep them when she finally came. She shook in his arms, bucking her hips up against him as her entire world seemed to explode around her. She was dimly aware that she was speaking in Erygonian, muttering a string of gibberish to him as her body pulsed around him.

"Eldere..." Kate murmured as she felt him pull away and suddenly she was flipped around, her belly pressed into the damp saddle that she had just been seated on.

Her toes were barely on the ground in this new position and as she reached to stabilize herself, she let out a gasp as Kell suddenly seized her arms and held her captive. "Khelt, don't pull away."

She was the queen of Scotland, a strong woman with nearly unlimited power. In that moment, however, she was simply Kate Aleister, begging her husband to take a daring move and not pull away when his moment came. They were not ready for children just yet, but Kate wanted everything her husband had to offer. She wanted to show him just how true that was.

Holding Kate captive to his whim, Kell might've refused her demand if he were thinking more clearly. A small voice tried to remind him of the risk, but the more wild strain of his blood was deaf to such concerns for the moment. When he felt the tension grow in his body, Kell's hands splayed across Kate's chest and belly, pulling her tightly against himself as he snarled and pinned her to the saddle. His seed flooded her belly, and he fell still against her aside from his heavy breathing.

Kate wanted to scream, but nothing came out as Kell seemed to be everywhere all at once. He held her so tightly, his heavy breathing loud in her ears as she felt him explode within her. She let out a hot whimper, feeling him empty inside of her for the first time during their marriage. The heaviness against her back told her that her husband was as sated as she was.

Kell leaned against the sawhorse and saddle for a long while, catching his breath as his usual awareness slowly returned. In the silence, he eventually murmured, "I shouldn't have done that." He sighed, holding Kate close. "We shouldn't be taking a risk like that with everything around us right now..."

Kell looked down at her for a moment, and as with many things that came into their path, he simply accepted that it was another thing they might have to make adjustments for, and he let it be for the moment. "Reckless girl," he muttered, teasing gently as he stole a long, soft kiss.

“Not reckless. I just want to love my husband right now.” Kate whispered as Kell kissed her softly and took care of her in the aftermath of what they had just done. “Stay with me today. Or even part of today. I just want to be near you without anything interfering like we have in Edinburgh. Until Henry shows himself, there’s not much we can do.”
