Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.".... President John F. Kennedy, 1961

Actually, the Europeans handle things on their own, for the most part until someone else comes along and sticks their nose in.

If there was no oil in the middle east, no one would care.

He is really going to be struggling if he doesn't get those Longshoremen back to work.

Ah, but do the Longshoremen have "weapons of mass destruction"? Are the Longeshormen the ones that "tried to kill his dad"?

Nope. Ergo, unimportant.

Then explain the whole mess that resulted from the break up of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia?? Croatia, Bosnia -Herzegovina, Macedonia, Kossovo.... Yes, you Europeans did a fine job handling all of that.

You know, if there was no "us" the world WOULD survive, believe it or not.

Fight? Time to retreat!

Yeah, right. Georgie boy has got too many troubles here at home: the economy, the longshore lockout Squid mentioned, widespread anti-war sentiment. Plus, it looks like Lula and the Workers Party are about to take power in Brazil, we're getting involved in a war in Colombia, etc. Latin America is on the verge of exploding. A canny statesman would retrench and regroup, not attack.

But not our boy. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
:p

"His Dad" was a President of the United States and I recall President Clinton was quite horrified about the plot and denounced it strongly. I would be quite upset that someone tried to kill a US President. All Americans should. And the fact that such a plot was ever contrived is yet one more legitimate cause for a war to oust Mr Hussein.

Don't get me wrong here, I understand all that and agree. However, when the President is stating in a public speech "this man tried to kill my dad", it kinda reeks of personal problems as opposed to the agenda he started off with.

His speech last night actually made HIM sound like the madman in training.

As was stated by a House member the other day - Iraq has been a problem for the last 12 years. Why now, a month before elections, is it imperative that we go in there full speed ahead.

He seems to be going out of his way to poke at Hussein in order to provoke him into doing something so GW can say "told ya so".
And when he does..well, who wins?

Invoking that is seriously going to hinder Republicans running for Congress in California.

Well, we want our products in the east. Also, he is damned if he does nothing too.

All of this over bar codes!!!! And these longshoremen earn nearly $100,000 per year. Probably barely pays the taxes in the People's Republic of California though.

I am so glad you asked this. In the beginning of this whole war controversy, President Bush and the Congressional Democrats were at odds because the White House said that The President did not need to get a resolution from Congress as he already had one ( voted in September 2001 ). The Dems were playing politics.
Then, surprise surprise, Bush relents and says... give me a resolution and do so now. Suddenly, and quite stunned, the Dems said wait until after the elections. They had put themselves into a corner by playing politics. That is why the House has come around and, it appears, so has the Senate. They want to get the war issue out of the way. They do not care about the war one way or the other. They (The Dems) are only concerned about power. They do not stand a chance if they can not put their message forward. You know, the 100 reasons not to vote Republican. They never tell you why to vote for them.... just why you should not vote for the party opposite.
