I think overall that gay male porn tends to be more artistic. Most lesbian porn is actually targeting a male audience, and tends to go more in the direction of being explicit. But there is some really good artistic lesbian porn available. It's just not always as easy to find among the more traditionally "male targeted" porn.

yes and no.

*some* gay porn can be viewed as artistic much in the same way there is straight and lesbian porn out there that focuses on sensuality over just seeing penetration or genetalia at work but overall becouse of having to practise safe sex in *every single scene* i think a lot of it ends up looking kind of choppy and for lack of a better word...stiff. if anything gay porn just gets beter looking performers becouse of the audience and the material.

also gay porn is at least twice as expensive as hetero porn. its been awhile since i bought any (ironically I havent bought *any* porn since I joined lit) but a new straight movie...even one professing "star" actors and actresses tends to retail about 25 dollars while a new gay movie will run upwards of 50 bucks.

I dont know if I agree with this or not, I think 2 girls together is pretty boring in pictures, but in reality or movies its pretty fun to watch. I think girls bodies have more curves and are more erotic and more interesting.

Personally haven't viewed any 'artistic' porn other than maybe one out of Europe, and it was straight. AND there is a serious 'lack' of pure lesbian porn, and the stuff I've seen, WHEN I can actually get ahold of any (not easy), does not appeal.

I agree with GLAMORILLA that there are some story oriented gay and straight films that arouse sensuality. Yet, I've also heard the complaint by gay friends that there isn't 'enough' of it. As for gay men getting better porn, I don't know that I agree. I prefer to read/view gay male and het porn rather than lesbian porn, usually because most lesbian porn is femme/femme and I much prefer a butch/femme dynamic in my girl-on-girl smut (as I've said before). But the idea that any one orientation of porn is better than any other doesn't necessarily fit for me...it's about how the producer wanted to make it. There's super high quality gay porn, and really really crappy gay porn. There's totally awesome straight porn, and horrible straight porn. There's panty-soaking/dick-stiffening lesbian porn, and there's utterly blah lesbian porn.

I'd guess the reason gay porn is more expensive is possibly because lesbian or straight porn sells more. they may have to make up for profit loss by quantity sold, vs. money brought in per video sold? I'm not sure I'm clear enough there.

I think becouse I'm a gay man I don't pay much attention to it but I do think erotica marketed towards women by women that covers all three bases (hetero,bi and homo) does exist~if you find it and you like it you have to support it.

I too like and agree with that reasoning. I make a distinction though, between porn and erotica. Porn is meant to arouse a sexual release...erotica pleases the senses in a much more subtle fashion. Both appeal to the senses, just differently.

You just need to find the right gay porn. There are some really nice lithe young gay porn actors. Bel Ami porns usually have at least one segment (since they are fond of having multiple shorts in one video) with younger actors. Europeans have a slightly less obsessive view of the buff man as the physical ideal.

The thing is, "smut" is generally used when someone disapproves of the material. "Erotica" is used when one approves of it. And "pornography" (or "porn") is used more or less as a neutral term.
