First Ever Crime and Punishment Story Event - Official Support Thread

You are so productive now. Are you feeling better, Keith?
I'm feeling about the same and assume I will until/unless the abscesses in my back decide to go away on their own. I just unloaded the dishwasher and I'll have to rest for a couple of hours now. I am, however, also preparing another story for this crime story exercise and the one I submitted a couple of days ago should run to eleven Lit. pages.

I feel your pain. Literally. I've got serious back issues, too, and they're not getting any better. It is what it is, and I'm not complaining. Just letting you know you are not alone.

Still keeping you in my prayers and sending you positive thoughts and best wishes.

My story (the only one unless my butt can get in gear) will be up tomorrow. Vengence is Mine is the name of the tale.
Yep, they are going up when submitted. My first one is marked for posting tomorrow.

And I just read it. Good story. 5 stars. I don't think they added the clickable link to the Crime and Punishment Challenge, though.

Oh, my, hopefully they will later. I saw your lovely comment a few moments ago. Thanks so very much. It's my lesson of how low people can sink when they seek extra-legal remedies. A point a commenter made but not sure he understood I understood.

It does have the link in it to the Crime & Punishment 2023 Story Event

Candy_Kane54 I saw your comment to MillieDynamite's story. I've used the New American Standard version of Deuteronomy 32:35 in some of my stories, most notably in 'Along Came A Spider' Ch. 02, and 'No Way Out' Ch. 05 (epilogue):

"Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, In due time their foot will slip; For the day of their calamity is near, And the impending things are hastening upon them."

Well, my story flirted with 4.5 for like a minute. It's been in a steady decline since and has now reached 4.39, which ain't nothing to be displaced with it. But with only 3 hearts to crow about, I can't be crowing. 70 votes to only 1,000 downloads isn't bad, though.

Don't worry about the hearts/likes/favorites. I find that a lot of people who heart one of my stories are putting it on their list to read later, and after they read it they take it off their favorite list. And you may get a good uptick in your score when the list comes out and more people read the story.

Side note: I'm almost done with mine. I expect to finish, proofread, and submit the first chapter by this weekend, and I'll submit the second chapter when the first one is published.

I know this comes up all the time, but since this isn't a contest, can I post the third chapter of a story provided it can stand alone on its own?

I've done it before without issue, BUT that chapter didn't have a number in the title. This one will.

Like the Nike commercial says: "Just do it." :)

If it was a contest, no. But for an event, why not?

I just submitted mine. Fingers crossed it gets published when all my other previously published works have been pending for over two weeks now.

This story was quite challenging. I wanted to combine a murder mystery without a murder (or any deaths) with a relatively accurate portrayal of insanity. Insanity doesn't mean psychotic: the legal international definition of insanity is the inability to tell the difference between right and wrong. It was a delicate balancing act to semi-realistically portray how grief could overwhelm someone without any actual deaths.

I guess we'll see if I did it right.

And one of those hearts, so not too good for you, sorry it hasn't got as many hearts as you want it have.

Hopefully I'll submit mine tomorrow - I can't edit 20k on my phone and need the bloke with the tech-whispering power to fix my computer. It's set against a backdrop of politics rather than being about politics, so should be acceptable.

Did these stories go to the top of the list? (Hubs or New List) Or were they given regular treatment ?

My story 'Dakota Moonshine' was uploaded today but doesn't seem to have been grouped with the other submissions for the event. I did add the 'Crime and Punishment 2023' phrase to both the notes and tag. I contacted support this morning so hopefully it will be sorted out.

They went up exactly like any other new submission. Nothing special about them at all, other than a link inserted into the foreword of mine... that links to nothing special. Just the thread announcing the event to the writers.

When the LIST of the stories goes up on the 25th, that link will bring up the page with the list of the stories. Right now, though, they're being published like any other submissions are.
