Endless Ends

This weekend I've been buried in sorting boxes and paperwork.

Perfect time for a movie marathon! :p

As of tonight, I've sat through five adaptions of And Then There Were None. (1945, 1965, 1974, 1989, and 2015)

Currently watching a possible (but by no means certain) pre-code inspiration, The Ninth Guest (1934).

And, tomorrow, if I'm still wading through paperwork, Desyat Negrityat (1987).

Never seen that last one! Russian, and notable for being one of two versions that retains the original Nihilistic ending. *nods*

My life is currently rife with excitement. :p
I don’t know why, but I always get this story mixed up with The Cat and the Canary. Maybe because of the house setting and people disappearing throughout? Are they similar, or am I way off? I can’t remember which one is which.

*gasps*

- The Cat and the Canary is comedy mystery/horror.

An old geezer dies and the possible heirs gather together twenty years later to hear the will. One person inherits. With a catch. The legatee must be judged sane or a second will (with a different heir) comes into effect.

Toss in a moldy mausoleum of a house and an escaped serial killer. Chaos ensues.

Actually two film adaptions of this one.

- And Then There Were None is a mystery.

Ten people are brought to an island under various guises. Once there, the group is cut off from the mainland and start dying one by one. At first, the deaths seem coincidental. As events progress, it becomes apparent the deaths are murders, and that the killer is one of the ten.

One of the best selling books of all time.

According to Wiki. :p

So basically, it’s the same story. 🤣 Kidding!
There is also a movie called One Body Too Many (old comedy) starring the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz and Bela Lugosi! It’s not great, but fun—also people being bumped off, old mansion, reading of the will, etc. I guess these others are all ripoff (inspired by?) and then there were none?

I've seen that movie!!

It's slapstick funny. Eesh. I did not realize that was the Tin Man.

This is more along the lines, plot wise, of The Cat and The Canary. You know, musty mansion. Lunatic will guaranteed to start off a murder spree. Works with horror or comedy. *nods*

AND, NO!

They are not the same story.

You're just doing that to egg me on. 😂

And Then There Were None is characterized by a more intense sense of isolation. Plus, the killer is not killing for financial gain, witch is the motive in all the movies like the above^.

This killer is motivated by the desire to kill, but in a just manner. It transpires early on that all ten people gathered on the island have been accused of crimes. Murder, natch.

I'm sure you can see the difference. :p

*dashes back*

Omg. 'Tis!!

And it has a 6.2 on IMDB! Mnusy hmapa (1987).

(That's only out 19 ratings, but who's counting. :p)

The laser dog eyes and patchwork facial fur!

🤣😂🤣

Incidentally, while searching, I ran across a Werewolf Series from 1987.

Twenty-nine episodes!

News to me. And I'm usually pretty up on these things. 🤷‍♀️

It stars Chuck Conners. Whose name is familiar, but, for the life of me I can't place his work or claim to fame....

I may have to track this down.

I mean, werewolves.

:p

-That is simply one hyena of a woman.
-I need new wool running socks.
-Yes? No? Yes? No? I can't decide.

I am so ready for this day to be over. 🤣

Today:

Old linoleum, a truly disgusting subfloor, and the last remnants of my sanity.

All removed. :p

At least the original wood floor turned out to be in surprisingly good shape.

Speaking of things I should know but do/did not....

Golden-age British mysteries. I've been reading them since I was a mere tween. They're always tossing dust sheets about, either placing or removing. I've always thought they were just, you know, old sheets.

Turns out, they are special sheets. Not just sheet discards.

Surprised?

Me, too. :p

Also, learned a new word today!

Imbroglio - an extremely confused, complicated, or embarrassing situation.

Booyah.

For werewolves, I recommend Dog Soldiers. Let me know your thoughts.
That’s a movie I’ve wanted to watch many times and for some reason I never have. I don’t know why, it’s a real imbroglio. 😉
I really need to get on that one. 👍
I've seen!

Only once. At least a decade ago. As I recall, it was a tad gory for my taste, but the plot line was clever, and the final scene was a nice touch. Irony or satire?

Not sure. The difference between those two won't stick in my head. 🤷‍♀️

Definitely worth the watch!

*makes a note to watch again*

Insulation ordered!

(And protective gear. 😎)

Installation means crawling behind walls and into the attic. Hot, messy, and all kinds of yuck.

Here's hoping it is no longer hot enough to fry an egg on the brick walkway next week. :p

What is it with people that don't apologize or make amends?

Seriously, were you raised in a barn? 🤷‍♀️

My grandmother used to say that last sentence. I'm still not entirely sure what its suppose to mean.

Yes? No? Yes? No?

Why can't I make decisions?!

*thunk*

C'mon autumn. 😂

Has anyone read The Alchemist? It was suggested as a read, but I'm a little on the fence....

So. I like quirky reading tie-ins and such.

One of Agatha Christie's characters, Ariadne Oliver is a mystery writer. She shows up in several of the Hercule Poirot books. Her detective, Sven Hjerson, mirrors the some of the issues Christie had writing the many-booked character of Poirot.

There is a one season Swedish series out which features Sven Hjerson. Solving crimes.

I. Am. So. In. :p

I dreamt of an ex last night. It was one of those dreams where, errr, sensation plays a large role. All day I've been most...let's go with uncomfortable.

Like, most uncomfortable.

It's like being on fire.

If it weren't for the fact that my...umm...device is packed in an out of reach box, my chastity might be in danger. Also, how long is this *uncomfortable* going to laaaaaaaaast?

#awkwardconversations
