Worth the effort?

I am impressed with the standard of entries from the AH.

Do the writers feel that they are getting more feedback and notice for their Earth Day entries than their other work? I am.

Og

I am.

Hello.

I notice that I am getting a lot more feedback from that one little posting, "They say you can't go home again" for the Story Contest than I usually do.

Of course it was written by my late husband, so It probably isn't eligible for any prize. I don't care about that.

Comments are much more critical than usual. It is almost like other writers are offering feedback rather than just readers.

Oddly many suggest to flesh out the sex, describe the home, the land much better. But the story isn't about sex. It is about a memory from another time, a loss of a moment. It is family and growing up, and the attempt to recapture youth in a place that was magic during childhood.

There was sex of course. I remember the day very well, Ted came in and told it to me. He always did. But it wasn't the drawn out attempts at pleasure we sometimes shared between us, it was the greedy grasping of a moment, a completion of a fantasy.
I remember feeling a tiny pang of jealousy. That quickly passed, as I knew he loved Paula, but was not "In love" with Paula. Does that make sense?

I left it just the way Ted wrote it, in that odd rambling style that is somehow exactly the way he spoke. I try so hard to copy that with my own words but still can't quite do it.

I certainly find the comments and criticism refreshing from the usual "Your story made me hard" types.

I find I come in and read the new stories every morning now, I will almost be sorry when the contest is over.

Lee

Be afraid, be very afraid, all you seekers after last place. I've just submitted Hunting Dawn and with as much good intention of plot and characterisation as it started with, it started rambling and lost itself up its own arse. But I posted anyway.

I even had to finish in a very indeterminate way, just to stop writing because it was going to go on so long (obviously not long by Og's standards just two Lit pages)

Last place here I come.

Enjoying the banter

but I have a problem. Can any one of you good people tell me which year the closing date of Sunday, 13th April is in? 'Cause it sure as heck ain't 2004!

If it's a misprint for Sunday 11th, I won't bother. If it's a misprint for Sunday 18th there's still time for some mediocrity.

Maybe.

I'd say no. Mine's hit the wall at 34 votes and I've only received 2 email Feedbacks. My public comments are all wonderful and I'm happy with that, but I wouldn't say entering the contest has been a real moving experience for me. As I wasn't necessarily competing for first or last place, I almost wish I'd have submitted the story on its own. I'd be very interested to see how it did without the extra attention during a contest. I never expected to win, but am quite disappointed with my average so far. And according to most, the score is admirable I guess, but I have a certain standard for where I hope to be and this time have fallen short of the mark.

I have to agree with you Og, about the quality of the entries. I haven't read them all just yet, but the ones I have read have been quite good. Best wishes to all and it will be fun to see whose story pulls ahead in the end.

I thought I was the only that noticed that. I had to go check my calendar again.

Hopefully it's the number that's correct and not the day, so that I can start and finish my sci-fi story which just happens to fit almost exactly into the spirit of the contest.

Me too.
Do the writers feel that they are getting more feedback and notice for their Earth Day entries than their other work?
Nope.

My stories don't attract reams of responses. But so far my two contest entries (a Romance, and a First Time) have gotten feedback from only two folks (Cookiejar and Doc), a grand total of 26 votes and 6500 views. These numbers are pitifully low even by my standards.

I've got a hunch these figures may be trying to tell me something about my current writing style. I say that because an Interracial story I submitter 14 months ago has gotten 70K views and 181 votes. And my entry in last summer's Nude Day contest, another Romance, has piled up 17K views and 82 votes.

However, my last submission prior to the contest was, "Burying Uncle Hirams's Ghost." an incest story involving cousins. I thought it was pretty good. So far, the reader's have thought otherwise. In six weeks, it's gotten 5000 views, 31 votes and a 4.32 score. If you can't even generate decent figures with with an Incest story, you are obviously not giving readers what they want.

I still like the contest related BS between writers on threads like this. But if my numbers don't pick up, I may not enter any more unless I already have a story on hand that fits the category. Even my ego can only take so much pounding. :)

I hope you don't mean this RF, I always enjoy your stories. The problem with my story is I get feedback that says "I loved your story" and they haven't voted.

You're one of my favorite people here by the way.

You brag a lot. So I'll bet you I can write a story for the contest that gets a lower rating than any story you can write. Put up or shut up.

My condolences on the passing of your husband but I definitely feel your story should be disqualified. A deceased person definitely has an advantage over most of the authors on this site, especially me.

Oh, and you being a doctor and all, have you encountered any patients with an ED drug overdose problem? You know, an erection that won't go down. If so, please give him my cell number.

Hey I'm in there. Where are you?

And don't think you can get away with what these nooby losers are trying, stories with no sex and deliberately downmarketing your style.

You write well, in fact you write very well and on style alone you'll score above me any time.

Bring it on sugar.

sirhugs, you've got to consider the source. Cookie suffers from a terminal case of rampant niceness. :)

But seriously folks, I'd rather get an occasional "atta boy" or even a "not so bad" from writers like cookie and Doc than a double-handful of "Hot story, add more sex," variety responses. Maybe that has something to do with my numbers.

Your mother should have worn a rubber.

Where's your story? I need to vomit. Really. It's that skinny thing.

So bet me.

I am inclined to agree, it isn't fair. I never even thought of that, I just found the story and liked it. I still have about 300 to 400 to read, Ted wrote a lot!

But I see it won't win anyway so I guess that isn't a problem.

No, I have never seen a case of ED overdose. I have heard rumors of it. If I do see one, all I can do is refer, though. Maybe I will refer them your way and let you fix them. LoL. Maybe I will try and fix them myself.

I think I've inadvertantly found the method required to win last place: 14 votes and average 3.07 (thanks for the speed of posting Laurel).

The one feedback so far: "give writing away this is more bdsm than a incest story"

That was the whole message.

Gauche

Not quite

That ties you with Piggy Tails, so you'll need to work a little harder to get the coveted last place. But keep trying there's always room down here at the bottom.

I'm taking you guys on. I have a plan--write a story about Gauche--that will get me some low votes.

Coincidentally, Gauche, Lee just wrote a story about you entitled "The Greatest Story Ever Told, OR...The bi*ch hid my Viagra." Newly posted today.

Your story's a hoot, Lee. Humor & Satire are my fav to write and read.

JUST DARN! I decided to try for last place, so I wrote "The Greatest Story ever Told..OR:" Bi*ch Stole my Viagra".

Didn't even edit it, just came off the keyboard. Supposed to be dumb, I think it came out funny, too. No idea where that came from.

I figured that would get me a nice 1 rating, darn thing is to 4.75 already!

Go figure. LoL.

Lee

Hey Sarahhh!

LOL remind me to spank you girl, you singlehandedly brought Piggy Tails from a 3.12 to a 3.20

I'm so ashamed I think I've lost last place.

I'm such a loser...er maybe not, but I'm still way down there.

Yeah that's it still way down there.

LOL Hey Sarahhh if you really want to be nice, follow my hyperlink to Hobbit sex. Now that's a story Thanks -- Jo

Lee,

Sounds like you're suffering from that dreaded malikdy known as, "The Producers," syndrom. The worse you try to make something you're writing, the better the sucker becomes.

Yo Jo,

OK, I did. I can be nice contrary to some like the dude who referred to me as "a newbie with an attitude" but he also said he liked my...uh...you know.

What I said on the Pubic Comment was totally true. Me no lie. I like to be on top.

Poor Grandpa Gauche--he's going to get "offed" in my story. I mean, the dude pulled my pigtails. Ouch!
