Greek, from sṓphrōn, (“sane, moderate, prudent”) + sôs (“safe, sound, whole”) + phrḗn (“mind”) + súnē (an abstract noun suffix). Essentialy, "excellence of character," from which all the other virtues flowed. The adjective form is "sophron."

"Never wanted to be the boy next door
Always thought I'd be something more..."

--"Drowse," Queen

"Oh, you're in my veins and I cannot get you out
Oh, you're all I taste at night inside of my mouth
Oh, you run away 'cause I am not what you found
Oh, you're in my veins and I cannot get you out"

--"In My Veins," Andrew Belle
