I never made it all they way through it. Seemed like a silly parody of Dangerous Liaisons, which was anything but silly, so I couldn't finish it. They were both based off the same novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, by Laclos, which I have not read.

I loved Cruel Intentions, but I was definitely in the target demographic for it. I haven’t read the book either, but I feel like I should have by now. I have seen Dangerous Liasons and Valmont though, and even the recent Starz series that got canceled after 1 season. I enjoyed them all and think each director and all actors brought something different to it despite not being a fan of Fairuza Balk or Uma Thurman. The series wasn’t particularly well-received, but I did like how the series format allowed them to delve deeper into each intrigue, plot, betrayal and scandal without too many twists and turns in short succession that it makes your head spin, like some movies tend to do. A series format lets the material breeeathe in a way movies do not. That being said, without having read the source material, I am not positive which elements were or weren’t in the original, and suspect the whole Ariadne plot line was added or embellished specifically to spice it up for modern audiences. Damn, now I think I really will have to read it soon!
