Do you remember when?

Do you remember the gas crunch in the 70's? Cars that ended in certain numbers could only get gas on certain days? Lines stretched for blocks and blocks.

Do you remember being able to ride a bike without having to be swathed in 3 inches of bubble wrap and styrofoam?

Do you remember playing lawn jarts, and not knowing a soul who was stupid enough to be gigged by one?

Do you remember clacker balls and all the dozens of your friends who were battered and bruised by them?

We have become a nation of wimps!

Do you remember knowing anyone with an allergy to peanuts!?!?! Seriously! Where in the world did that come from?

DYRW a purebred dog cost $100 and mutts were free in the newspaper?

I do, was on my way back to school from lunch and they announced on the radio.

Do you remember when kids actually left school in the middle of the day to go home for lunch?

Do you remember when kids walked to school?

Major Flashbacks

Holy Shit... WSBK was channel 38 on UFH or was it UHF. They aired the Bruins...Ha, ask a 20 year old if they know what UHF was...I'm glad I saw this post. I'm in Florida now but grew up in Mass.

You couldn't shop on Sunday...you could still find an actual phone booth...everywhere!
The radio stations were WBCN in Boston "The Big Matress"...WAAF in Worchester, The Stone's dressed up like bums and handed out tickets as a promotion for playing at the "New" Civic Center in Worchester... Peter Wolf was a D.J. at BCN before J. Giels Band. They'd play at a hick pub during the week to just jam, and then play at the Garden on Fri. and Sat. night....A sixteen year old kid could still buy a pack of smokes ( for less than a buck )...a joint was a buck, a "dime bag" was $10. Gas was less than a buck. I could go on and on... memories.

One more thing out of curiosity...any one remember Arrow Moccasins in Hudson Mass?

If you didnt like what Mom made, tough.

Do you remember in the 1980's McDonalds had an Olympic promotion giving away tons of food. What they didnt count on was Russia and the Eastern Bloc nations boycotting, and the Americans took home a record haul. It was free McDonalds for a month. (Sorry Mom, I hope you dont see this post for many reasons!)

You could feed a family a 4 for $10.00 at a MacDonalds

Do you remember when kids would sneak into the Boston Garden? When the place was so loud and rocking?

I used to.
Do you remember when the Cold War was a hot thing?

We would have practice drills where we would get under our desks and cover our heads. Like that was going to help you in a nuclear war?!

I used to.
Do you remember when the Cold War was a hot thing?

I remember reading about it in my weekly reader at school! The article actually spoke of ICBM's, scared the shit out of me.

Do you remember watching the Miracle on Ice?

Indeed! Mike Eruzione oh yes, fantastic!

DYRW Mark Spitz won all the medals and there was the murders at the Olympic Village?

Not to get too political,

But DYR when they had separate drinking fountains in the south?

One was marked colored water. An older relative of mine told me a story of when she was young she saw the fountain and thought, "wow colored water!, I wonder if its blue, or green, or red," So she went to take a drink only to be whisked away from the fountain.

While we have a long way to go, it is amazing how much has happened in the last 30 years.

When we moved to MS in 1969 there were still some doctor's offices with two different waiting rooms.

Do you remember where you were when John Lennon was shot?

No, but I do remember the news. They kept focusing on all the people going out buying Beatles records, thinking they would be collectables.

DYR, when Gas was less than a buck a gallon? Actually I used to laugh at the fact that a gallon of water cost more than a gallon of gas!

It wasn't me that needed to know :D

I'm fairly fluent in US English, however I still get caught out from time to time. I'd never heard of a Picture Hat for instance. :)

Speaking of hats..

DYR when people got dressed up to go to sporting event? All the old footage of baseball games shows men in the crowd with suits and hats.
