I agree with a lot of what I have read where people are saying we need to support our leaders in their efforts to deal with the WTC crisis and terrorism at large.

But I do not believe that we should give our leaders a blank check.

I feel fairly certain that some of our leaders will try to use the focus on terrorism and the current wave of "patriotism" to pass legislation that is far from NY or terrorists. What? Am I suggesting that some of our leaders might take advantage of the current climate to pass otherwise unpassable laws?

You're goddamned right I am. Let's get the terrorists. Let's support our leaders- but let's watch their asses too.

what types of bills

do you think would be shuffled through under all the chaotic terrorism scramble? More importantly, what legislation are
you most concerned about ?

Lots of bills & military "plans" -

The idiots on Bush's team, including Wolfowitz and Cheney's chief of staff, want to bomb BAGHDAD, with no evidence of Iraq's involvement, as par tof any action. That dumb idea would dissuade anyone from helping the US.

What kind of help, you ask? Before the millennium, little Jordan managed to uncover a bin Laden/al Qaeda plan to blow up lots of hotels, tourist sites, etc. They have agents that uncovered the plot. We have NONE. We definitely need cooperation from a lot of Muslim countries!

Clinton had a team on standby in the Gulf to take bin Laden for two years. We have no intelligence to help us locate him.

Ashcroft has some wild legal authorizations that will forever change our lives if Congress passes them. Pay attention....

Censorship, faith-based intiatives, environmental things, immigration... all of it. The whole non-agenda.

Don't misunderstand me, I am all behind them with getting the people responsible, and terrorism too, but I don't trust them any more today than I do the day that K. Harris played her role so well.

Support? Yes. Trust? No.

The government doesn't write checks. They use a credit card and never pay off the balance.

But we WERE paying it off -

... briefly, during the Golden Days of Bill. You righties are gonna be soooo upset all yout lives when peole look back on that big Dow, and all that peace, and the fuss over a blow job. It will be no less painful for you guys than Reagan's glow has been for liberals....

If it might take, what you refer to as a "blank check"......

To rid the globe of irrational danger to the vast majority.....

In a temporary fashion - until the "different & dangerous" are vanquished.....

Providing general safety for the masses.....

So be it.

We (the masses) are sophisticated enough to remove the power (that blank check to which you so refer) we gave them in the first place.

The USA in particular will never stand for totalinarianism in any form - over a long run.

It can't ever happen - times have changed.

I bet they try and bring up Carnivore again. It has already been said the terrorists communicated over email alot. Intercepting and detecting that communication is what Carnivore was designed for. We do not want something like that around. I would prefer that the government could not read all my email.

I think the plan all along is to not only hit Baghdad, but go in and clear the rest of the republican guard and destroy the mass destruction weapon capabilities. Sure, they'll hit binny's thugs and might even send a force in to look for him, but the window of opportunity is getting narrower by the day before the snows hit the Afghan mountains. And if the Syrians or Iranians have a problem with us going into Iraq, they'll be next on the list.

Sure!

Let's settle old scores leftover from Bush 1. Watch the British troops hightail it back home. Watch all sympathy evaporate. That's what I fear from Bush - that instead of dealing effectively with the gang that did this thing - and will do others like it - the Admin grabs a time-lapse blank check to piss everyone off some more. If we attack Baghdad, with no proof that Iraq was involved in this business, we forfeit any hope of a solution. And we can kiss our lives as we know them goodbye. We have the world's support because they, too, have issues with bin Laden and al Qeida; if we go off the track, they'll lose interest. And they'll watch us blow up, again, and again, and again.

AS far as I've heard, Carnivore was installed last week at EarthLink, AOL, etc. No hassle. They are going through our mail. Right now, of course, it's for terrorists. But when they have a little time on their hands....

British bombs fell on Iraq today. They aren't going anywhere. We might lose France, but who needs the French anyway.

I might be stupid...

but you talk crazy.

I am talking about here at home.

The benefits of an open society are worth the risks. It's what we stand for- law and principle.

Hmhh actually maybe not.

Who would the ever suspect me. Muhahah it is a perfect plan to the rid the world of him.
Muhahahahahahah *evil cackling fades into the distance*

Exactly. The creeping law syndrome will be coming your way soon.

If America is anything like the UK, Government can get away with major changes without creating a law and without debate. Just by adding an "Administrative Amendment" to a current law.

Anyone who doesn't think any politician wouldn't take advantage of this situation probably isn't old enough to vote.

My bet? Some initial minor changes in the freedom to express yourselves.

:(

You mean like the C.I.A. supporting the Thai., and Laotion drug lords during Nam.......awwww they wouldn't
waste tax payers money.
