Collector or hoarder???
what do you have too many of around the house???

That is a very fine line for a lot of people!

I was raised by a mom with a small "obsession" about having to have EVERYTHING in a collection. I didn't have just one Care Bear - I had a watch, and coloring books, and books, and statues, and toiletry sets, and bowls, and cups, and...the list goes on and on. (That's just one example but can be applied to everything from Barbies to Grease Cards :) ).

Sadly, that trait was passed down to me. It took me several years to realize that it wasn't necessary for my son to have every Thomas the Train in every variation or my daughter to have ever Monster High Doll.

My house is clean, and so was the one that I grew up in (except my room :) ). But there was so much of everything! In the last three or four years I have been decluttering and I no longer have to get every thing in a collection...

So, now?? I have too much Christmas stuff (all put away, but overflowing in the closet).

I'm a collector of old local breweriana. Advertising art, mugs, bottles, barrels, labels, cans and openers, etc.

I'm a hoarder of tools and such. Having inherited tools from my father, father-in-law and a neighbor, I have way too many hand tools and yard implements. I also have bins full of odd nuts, bolts, screws and fasteners. 2x4's, electical and plumbing odds and ends, shingles, you name it. Way too much. But when I need something like a single washer - it does save a trip to the hardware store

I grew up in something of a hoarders household with respect to records and magazines. It took me a while to recognize a lot of that in myself. Consequently I eliminated almost all of the magazines and soft back books I had. All of my records, CD's and DVD's disappeared on me which was actually a shame and not of my doing.

I've done a couple of major house moves in the last couple of years out of a home we were in for over 30 years and the accumulation was incredible of everything but most of all tools and toys....Every tool and sporting good you can imagine I gave away with major downsizing and when I look around houses now it is still overwhelmed with game/sport/toys. Collection or just too many interests....???.......

yes.

Both. Unfortunately, my...ummm.. "lack of a tidy instinct", leads to more of a hoardish appearance.

When I have time (next to never) I like to have my collected stuff more organised and available for use and/or viewing.

Art supplies, tools, books and toys. Obviously, the toys are the frivolous items. (though I have been "in the business", so there is a bit of rationalization :D )

I don't collect anything but unrequested dick pics :p

If you're keeping them, then I'd say you're a hoarder. :D

For me, it's books. The condo I'm buying has a room with built-in bookshelves on two full walls. I almost came. But I'm gonna say collector, because I do keep them on bookshelves.

I have a customer....her porch was crowded! Like you had to make a path to the door and her car was packed ! Newspapers, boxes!
I went there recently, she said she had some work done.

She must have had a lot of pressure... Like WOW. I missed it the first time around..

Def a horder

Yeah, I collect a lot of diffferent things. A samping is as follows:

Baseball cards
Autographs
Marbles
Fossils
Antique tools
Cars
Books
Records
Root beer mugs
Coca-Cola
Signs

Need I go on?

Definitely not a hoarder. The only thing I've collected as an adult has been Swarovski crystal figurines. My husband has been through several hobbies & has collected a few things. Thankfully he's grown out of it except he's still looking for a couple of 1980's sport bikes.
A friend of his has gotten into collecting records & he was getting interested, but I got to him in time to discourage that.

L:rose:

I'm one of those people that routinely goes through things and tosses them if I haven't touched it in a year.

Hate, hate, HATE clutter. It's one of the things I'm really looking forward to in my divorce, as my husband saves every receipt, every box something came in, every piece of computer equipment that he ever bought even if it's 15 years old.

If I had my way, I'd live in one of those Tiny Homes - 400 square feet. I'm so tired of the things I own owning me...

We're slowly slicing into our huge accumulation of printed literature. D/L'd digital versions suffice for most texts. We'll keep the illustrated editions, and charts, folios, etc.

We have a museum-quality collection of ethnic arts and crafts. We know, because we've seen lesser collections in major museums. Ain't room to collect much more, dammit. We'll love what we have.

We have a rather large collection of musical instruments. I think the current count is 130 (but no harpsichords). Do I hoard zithers? We have representative collections of Mayan fabrics, Bay Area landscape paintings, toy cameras, certain literature (every issue!), and tarot card decks.

I'm afraid I do hoard motel/hotel giveaways. All those free soaps and shampoos - got'em!

I have seen that hoarder show on TV and there is a huge difference
between a collector, a cluttered space and hoarders

my tiny little mom-in-law apartment is more storage space I live in.
The landlords here don't allow me to have any storage space here. The
people who live up front in the real house & pay more rent get everything.
That includes needed house repairs they are responsible for.

When it comes to model trains, there is no such thing as being a hoarder. You're either a collector, an operator or a bit of both but you can never have enough trains....or space to run them in. ;)

I don't collect anything but unrequested dick pics :p

I'd almost ask if guys are really that bad about sending that kind of unsolicited crap but have enough sense to realize its probably worse then I would ever suspect. But then again how many of said dick pic senders are actually collecting other dudes dick pics in order to send them in pretense of their own...

A neighbor that lives across the street where I grew up is a hoarder. Her son's were around our age and my parents babysat them so they were like our brothers. We used to be able to go into her house but now if we went over she would only open her door enough to see out. She told her son if he called hoarders she would disown him. It changed a lot for her when her mom died years ago. Her mom was a hoarder as well.

Jewelry supplies, beads, findings. Ugh...I really need to downsize that.

I'm not including the lingerie which is neither a collection nor hoarding...it's my lifeblood.

Neither... I'm a purger. My general rule is that if I haven't used the item in the past year, it goes. I can't stand extraneous stuff all over the place. I collect perfumes.
