Collector or hoarder???

I'm a collector, except when it comes to craft supplies. I hoard paper. I'm going to try to donate some of it to a teacher. I funded her project through Donors Choose.

As I approach my 70th birthday, I'm getting rid of things. A lot of my treasured items are going to be given to people who love and appreciate them.

I did that with a lot of what I had when I had to move.
I passed out tons of craft items and also gave gifts to people who appreciate some really cool
& expensive items that I didn't have room for anymore.

I guess I hoard notebooks - as a writer I keep buying ones that appeal to me in some way, but then consider them ā€˜too special’ to use! I’m going to get tough on myself, and start using them.

I am having trouble though with parting with any of a deceased parent’s belongings... it’s been a year, and I don’t have the heart to part with it, but I don’t have the space for it all either, so it’s causing me problems

My mother is a hoarder; and she ages, and is forced to move into smaller and smaller spaces, letting go is getting harder for her. So much of her stuff is going to storage, where it will probably never see the light of day again. :(

Haha. I love the first part about " too special " I thought I was the only weirdo :)rose:) who did that! :D

I just moved and I realize I was/am? A hoarder. I had tons of things that even still had the price tag on them or were still in boxes. ( I got a lot of shit from my friends about that too).

I’m glad I’m not the only one! Any time I’ve confessed to my special notebooks I get looked at like I’m mad!

This is my mom; things that she has never/ will never wear/ use, but refuses to let go of because, maybe some day she might need/ want it

I don't really hoard.. and my house isn't really cluttered except for one room where people come in and drop they're stuff..
In a drawer though.. you'll find about 40 greeting cards for "just in case"
They're beautiful - every last one of them

It was crazy. They'd be like: what's in this box? Me: I don't know.
After my husband passed, I did A LOT of retail therapy. And obviously I didn't need half of it.:eek::(

I have paint brushes and other things I find to use for art pieces.
A lot of them find their way out to hang on display for me to look at not in any real profitable work.

If you’ve got them on display, then at least you’re enjoying them! :) that’s a good idea actually, my notebooks are just shoved away in various places!

That IS a good idea! I see a book ledge from IKEA in my future!

I have odd mugs or glass jars with colored pencils, paint brushes & stuff around.
Then there are smaller things like stuff I've found in parking lots that are odd stuff. some are in art pieces but others like a little toy hippo I have sitting there guarding my spare keys.

I have a couple of favorite brushes that I've only ever used over & over until I could make sure to have an exact back up one.

OMG watched some horrible animal hoarders on an Animal Planet show the other day.
HOW can people do that to those poor animals??

I used to collect miniatures and rocks/crystals. I still do get some rocks/crystals but not often and not many. I have some in every room now. Gave up on the miniatures some years ago. Mainly I am getting rid of stuff. Even craft supplies. I used to have tons of those.

I did that 2 years ago when I had to move.
I still miss some things I got rid of

I'm going to have to follow suit and get rid of craft supplies. My plan is to give it to an art teacher.

I did that when I moved. Now I still have art supplies
but I switch out with other artists when I move into a new kind of art.
I've had to switch to smaller items and mainly wood

welp, I am a collector. My ex was a hoarder. She still had things that had never even been taken out of the shipping box they were sent in. Clothes that still had the tags on, and never worn. No rhyme or reason for the items either.

I will occasionally go through my things and go "I haven't used this in X years...time to go" Though, right now, with the exception of my toolboxes, everything I own will fit in the back of my car. I am even currently working on trying to sell off items from my toolboxes, though not very many people are into Analog Machinist Tools, they want digital measuring devices more
