Big Brother in the Workplace. Watch out!

hello all. i came here because some co-workers are gossiping about a few people being watched on the internet by the big brother system installed by our employers.

there are some really hurtful things being said about these people and their kids are sure to suffer. these are good, respectable people and because they were careless, their lives are going to change.

i ask this of myself as well as all of you.......is it really worth it to get online and talk about how many orgasms you had last night or how your partner smells or tastes?

now, if you don't care how your kids or you will be affected, I guess this isn't for you. to all who do care......please be careful!!!!

It's a risk for everyone, a calculated one. When I'm in a country where they monitor internet, I don't use it. Take control.

Lemme get this straight... you came to Lit, a place full of porn and sex and all that 'bad' stuff... to warn people not to visit places like this from work???

I've worked plenty of places where internet usage is monitored. It's not Big Brother, it's companies looking out for themselves. Making sure that you're doing the job they're paying you to do, making sure you're not putting them into any danger liability wise for your activities on the net. If you're monitored, don't be stupid.

Well, beyond the fact that it offends some people to see others visiting porn sites, I don't see what is so bad about visiting a porn site at work vs. visiting any other site.

Just the same, given the current attitude, it is just plain stupid to risk your job/career visiting porn sites from your workplace - either do it somewhere else or don't do it at all.

As for Big Brother; your employer has a right to know what you are doing with the computer and internet access they supply you. If their policy is that you may use it only for work related surfing, then follow that policy. If you don't like the policy then either work to get it changed, get a different job or do your non-wrok related surfing from home like the rest of us.
