Millions of people will be out and about, driving to their nearest voting booth, and casting a vote for the least worst candidate.
And if the pre-election polls are to be believed, it looks like Australia will have a new Prime Minister - one that believes austerity is the way to go (despite watching how that ended up in Europe!)

Might be time to sell up and move before everything goes to shit.

For the first time ever, I plan to fill in all the bottom section of the form.
I will number every candidate in the order of my preference, and try and ensure as many Independents get in as possible.
We will need strong Independent voices in gov't to stop the Liberals (who are expected to win) from totally fucking up this country.

Sorry, but can you explain what you meant.

Don't you just vote for one representative?

What are the liberals doing? Spending too much? I read recently that your country is in pretty good shape with regard to budget debt.

There are two sections to the form.... you can either vote for the entire party above the line with a single 'x' (Labour, Liberal, Green, etc), or you can vote for each individual member of each party below the line (in which case you have to number every single box in order of your preference).

We are in very good shape with respect to the rest of the developed countries, but that won't last long.

Your election process appears to be much smoother and possibly less affected by big business dollars than ours. We are in a deep mess here it seems and could do with some serious change. I will be anxious to hear the outcome and your thoughts on it.

That's something new I learnt today, very intriguing. Thank you.

Our papers have been touting that Kevin Rudd is likely to come back... but the buzz on the net is diff.

Perhaps too much dependence on China?

Right?! I fear its the same for us in different ways. They are certainly the big dog in terms of finance. They have a real estate bubble in thier future too, hope it doesnt send us all back to 2009.

I am at the polling station now. There's already hundreds here.... I think a heck of a lot more people will turn out to vote this election....

I may have plenty of objections to the two party preferred voting system, the fact that compulsory voting is definately not democratic irks me to heck, but even I'm voting this election.

And like WQ, am voting for every indepedant on the ballot. Liberal and Labour both suck.

Honestly, I have no issues with our nation hopping in to bed with just about everyone...

We're a Commonwealth nation, our major trading partners are China and the Indonesian / Malaysian regions and we have military ties with not only the US but Singapore and a host of other countries.

It's good we're such whores sometimes, it means our economy has more flexibility to weather the storms.

Voting independent. Just like last year. And the year before that.

If Malcolm T were in the running I'd vote for him. Alas.

Election days are dry days for us.

You need a beer after voting. :D

Bottle shops (liquor stores) are closed Good Friday and Christmas Day. We Aussies enjoy a beer. I'm pretty sure some pubs are open Christmas Day here in Sydney. RSLs and bowling clubs are open, too.

It seems that there are a lot of Aussies on this site? And a lot UK people.

I don't believe that Labour and Rudd will stay in power.
People are seriously disenfranchised with the party as a result of Rudds destabilising influence over the last few years.

I had to number 54 boxes!
How many on your form?
