My proclivity is to sample according to genre rather than author. If the subject holds me and urges me to read more after page 1, then that is a very positive sign. Most do not. Smart is always sexy.

I don't think there's any I absolutely can't understand. Deep South USA gets to be a bit of a struggle for me. And heavy, 50's-style Brooklyn accents can be a bit jarring. But in both cases, the speaker really has to be laying it on cartoonishly thick.

Simplicity. I miss it. Modern kids have way too much going on now. Once, we could sit there with our analog TVs, accept what the programmers gave us, pee during commercials, and be content. Now? My kid is unhappy that he can't fast-forward everything in his life.
