Patti Schmidt, the final host of CBC's Brave New Waves, described the decline of CBC radio. It became "data driven" instead of people driven. The same may have happened to NPR. Decades ago, I had a long list of public radio to hear every weekend: Car Talk, Wha'd'ya'know, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Prairie Home Companion, and The Vinyl Cafe. Those are mostly gone. Most of those people are dead or retired, but what has replaced them is mostly crap. I like the storytelling on The Moth, but just one hour is not enough for me to remember there is some decent radio left.

I think Prairie Home Companion was yanked from the airwaves because the only people listening to radio were trapped in their cars and it induced extreme drowsiness in its listeners leading to an uptick in automobile accidents during its broadcasts...
