but so does canada and england and just about every other 1st world county

i think there is good and negative with each of those countries and its different in each one

but my main point is that each of those countries still has human rights issues both at home and abroad ... especially how we exploit other 3rd world countries

without getting too preachy and "naive" couldn't we all do better our countries have come so far in recent times but with recent history being dominated by the cold war isn't it about time we did better now

or is our present going to be dominated by world terrorist policys rather then truly forward thinking policys is it too idealistic to want that ?

I can think of a few third world countries that don't smell to fantastic either.

Good point sexy. We're all so jolly partiotic, it gives me goose bumps.

Finally, some level-headed thinking.

All this Canada versus US stuff was starting to sound an argument over who was the best hitter of all-time, Babe Ruth or Ted Williams.

i know but they are 3rd world countries for a reason ... we're meant to be the end product but we're not exactly great either

i don't hate my country and i don't hate america or canada either but i just hope for more and although i know these things don't happen quickly i don't see where they are coming from

Having a little self-loathing?

It amuses me when people assign a class structure, even to nations! The divisionists and their hate of successful enterprise and development of technologies for profit, is so neurotic.
The instant generation demands change now, don't bother them with technicalities, just do it! I'm glad the world turns slow, to give thoughtful people a chance to let their message dig into the others running for the cliff.
Just what about your particular rock you call home, bothers you? Don't give a mindless answer like, "The way we exploit the tired masses" bullshit. The more prosperous nations give the lion's share of aid to nations that are struggling, so what do you want? Global welfare?
What inequities really exist in your nation?
What are you personally doing to change it, besides just whining on the Litboard?
What suggestions do you have for people to change the situation(s) you identify in their area?

:D

America

already gives the MOST AID to countries in the world......with nothing in return......

FUCK the rest of the world....if they cant do for themselves.....screw em......

Lets cut off ALL foreign aid.....and handouts.....

Excellent idea!

But how would we project our superiority globally then?

Re: Having a little self-loathing?

lost cause :

when there is basic human rights problems like having different laws depending on someone's sexuality

when laws are created to protect privacy but they end up doing the reverse ... semi recent laws passed in england which were meant to protect peoples privacy with technology such as the internet and email ... the law actually gives the government more power to have access to peoples computer without any kind of probably cause and forces ISP's to store all data (this really deserves its own thread but i'd need to talk to my sister to get more concrete details)

when we're meant to be convincing 3rd world countries the good in having free trade and we end up setting tariffs on steel (the us started it but england quickly followed suit ... foreign aid doesn't mean anything when you won't allow a free market and you allow corporations to exploit poorer nations eg "Bhopal Disaster"

when kyoto fails and the follow up earth summit we do nothing to create an alternative or even say if we're going to go forward with kyoto or not

im not self loathing at all i just want more from our countries

and im not blind to the kind of crap we're doing

i try and do some things but you're right i don't do enough as much as i'd like too thats going to be my new years resolution

Kyoto

was an attempt to stifle the US economy

If the world doesnt like it

Tell em to stop breathing!

If the US economy slows down the worlds economy DIES and then who BENEFITS?

BTW....France no longer follows the Kyoto.......

You represent practically everything the Founding Fathers didn't want America to be.

Maybe you should get the fuck out?

What utter crap. We didn't ratify Kyoto because:

1) Washington bowed to the will of automakers;

2) The White House's own study showed that Kyoto wouldn't significantly cut down the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere over the next 5 decades.

America first is fine. America first, to the detriment of other people, is a disgusting thought.

Washington never imagined how America and its people would be weaved into the fabric of the world.

Even better, let's bring back protectionism and isolationism, eh?

Whats good for GM

and the auto industry.....1 in 8 are employed in that industry or related......is good for the US....and the WORLD economy

As to your comment of.......America first is fine. America first, to the detriment of other people, is a disgusting thought.

i don't think its regrettable when nobody does anything about it ... if america regretted it they would of done more to help and hold the people responsiblee accountable

8000 people died in the immediate aftermath and people are still dying from it today

im not just blaming america england has the same attitude when it comes to dealing's in other countries

...yes...there is a definite odor to this place...we need a monumental stick-up...

All Im saying

Lets ELIMINATE all foreign aid....that we dont get a substantive return from!

And you don't think this is a detriment? What do you think they're doing with that foreign aid, going to the circus?

I think Amerca should completely isolate itself for a few years and watch the rest of the world just collapse upon itself.

Sexy

You are wrong.....

America and Union Carbide paid millions......and has done plenty....

Enough already

Cant feel guilty forever
