A stinging setback in California is a warning for Democrats in 2022

LOS ANGELES — Two years ago, Democrats celebrated a sweep of seven Republican-held congressional seats in California as evidence of the party’s growing ability to compete in swing districts here and across the nation.

But this year, Republicans snatched back four of those seats even as Joe Biden swamped President Donald Trump in California. The losses stunned Democrats and contributed to the razor-thin margin the party will hold in the House of Representatives this January.

But by any measure, the results were a setback for Democrats in this state and nationally, signaling the steep obstacles they will face in 2022 competing in the predominantly suburban swing districts that fueled their takeover of the House in 2018.

Lost or not, it will be interesting to see if he taught some people a few things in the up coming elections...and not just the people running for office.

Yeah, like, it's important not to be a lying and insulting bastard, get impeached, lose an election, and become a single-term loser.

I see your point.

I think that since the shift to the blue only occurred two years ago that this shift is still a part of this state's on-going transformation that has yet to work itself out.

The above article is decent in explaining some of the back and forth.

California is an incredible diverse state, some areas way more so than other. Covid, lack of campaigning and money spent by Dems and areas where lots of poor people are struggling for their very survival may have more to do with this current shift Than anyone realizes.

The next election will definitely tells us all more about the long term direction of the state.

Republicans regaine=ing four of seven seats they lost two years ago, isn't much of a swing.

If they had retaken ALL seven and some Democrats seats as well - that would have been a result to celebrate.

California is slated to lose a seat in the 2020 census. The Dems have full control of the state legislature. The Republicans elsewhere have fought tooth and nail to prevent any reform of gerrymandering. Freshman house members tend to get screwed in redistricting. Just sayin'.

the whole election for the democrats was a referendum on trump
which congratulations they won by the slimmest of margins
but in victory pyrrhic something got lost and that was the message of what would be done with victory
which means that in individual districts the voters had a choice between a message with
a direction and boy do we ever hate trump
well trump hate won but
message won too

in short the election was successfully nationalized
the short term goal
but in forgetting that politics is local
the long term goal was lost

now bidens only mandate is still
i am not trump

it is part of the overall election picture which was encouraging for we republicans
nancy lost house seats and the aoc radical left is now fighting for ascendency in leadership
they will not win but in just two years part of our message will be
the radicalization of the democrat party and why you should fear socialism
especially if biden is able to do things like throw open the border
attack coal oil and gas join paris and cozy up to iran and china

so we are heartened by this result

That's been your message for a hundred years, EmptyTank.
