Dozens of Democrats in the House and Senate proposed legislation this week that would give all students from pre-school through high school three free meals a day plus a snack regardless of income, a move they said is needed to cope with the "record numbers" of American kids who are struggling with hunger.

"Universal school meals is not just commonsense policy; it is also extremely popular," said Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., the lead sponsor of the bill in the House. "Nearly 75% of Americans support permanent universal school meals — including the majority of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. It’s time to listen to the demands of our constituents and at long last make school meals free and universal for all kids."

Giving credit where credit is due. My favorite targets to shit on here are Surrender Monkey Democrats, the corporate news media in general, and Fox News in particular. This story gives me cautious hope that all is not lost and that school children are viewed as something beyond tools to promote discriminatory anti-gay legislation or target practice for nazis, homicidal maniacs, and 2nd amendment enthusiasts in the Republican party.

I fully expect the Democrats to compromise with the right wing conservatives on this bill to the point where ketchup will be considered a vegetable and children will have to rent their eating utensils and Fox News will be reporting this is a communist plot to feminize boys into becoming government dependent welfare queens. But for a brief moment it almost appears as if we live in a sane world.

Nothing is free, someone somewhere is paying for it.

That said, maybe we could tell the government to stop sending hundreds of billions of dollars over seas to pay for more war and killing.

I imagine we could pay for a lot more than just kid's food if we actually used government funds for the people who the government takes the money from in the first place.

I used to spend my lunch money on the garlic bread. Yes, that was before drugs in school.

You're pretty unaware of Alberta.

You have a problem with Alberta having that program?
nope, but you seem to unaware of it, and claim we are sending hundreds of billions tax dollars overseas for war.

Canada is not sending hundreds of billions.....

the above is why I posted the link.

Canada is not sending hundreds of billions.....
No, the US is.

I would've specified Canada if I saying Canada was the one sending billions.

Maybe go back to the original post and reread it. It was talking about the US, not Canada.

Maybe go back to your original post and correct it, so that it reads the way you intended. I am not at fault for your failings to write properly.
I took it to mean Canada. Since you claim to be from Canada. I am not a mind reader, and neither is anyone else here.

That's the first thing I brought up when the local school board wanted to hire some crossing guards. "Who's going to pay for that? I mean, yeah sure, preventing a bunch horrific traffic deaths of children might be a good thing but that could cost me 50 to 75 cents per year in taxes.

If the specified country being talked about is the US, you should assume I'm talking about the US. Not another country.

I can see why you get off tract on some subjects, if you read everything with that logic.
Topic is US government, I mention facts about US government spending, you pretend I'm talking about Canada spending and then claim I go off tract. 🤣

Would you prefer 'incorrectly and strangely assumed"?
You can chose what ever words you wish to describe why I misinterpreted what you wrote. Though if you had written a better sentence, then there would not have been any confusion. Which was my point.

Next time ask for clarification instead of making silly assumptions, since the idea of me participating in a topic about X means I'm talking about X seems to confuse you.

Hey you wish to write like a child, not my problem. I am just trying to help you improve on your sentence structure.

So which is more expensive for taxpayers, meals for school kids or extending the child tax credit?
