2024 First Presidential Debate Thread: June 27th

Yah, this isn't the same thing. You need to listen more to what people are saying.
Of course it is not the same thing, the stakes are much higher this election. Things will calm down quickly.

Data from focus groups are already coming in showing people are more concerned with Trumps lies.

As someone who can't stand either candidate, I thought this debate was great. Can we get this weekly? One who can't tell the truth and one who has no idea what he is saying or how to say it.

Maybe they can play golf, miked up and just let the comedy run. Can we pass a law saying you have to be over 76, not 36, to run for President?

Trump told some UNFORGIVABLE lies in that debate.

The LIES about abortion were beyond egregious.

The LIES about President Biden’s tax plan were ridiculous.

The LIES about what great shape he left the country in when President Biden took over was laughable.

The LIES he told about January 6th were criminal.

The LIES he told about how respected America was around the world when he was President probably made Putin, Xi, Kim, AND our allies laugh.

The LIE about Stormy Daniels was pathetic: even he didn’t believe it when he said it.

Etc, etc, etc…

😑

People who are closest to the president are often quoted as saying he is sharp and energetic behind closed doors. His campaign team should have insisted the debate be held behind closed doors.

Aren’t most voters entitled to expect a candidate for President to be able to expose these lies of Trumps ?
The lies have been blatant for years. It's way past time for voters to take responsibility for admitting reality and protecting their butts themselves.

But Obama lost the first debate to Romney, and the party panicked.

And it was then Vice President Biden’s performance against Paul Ryan in the VP debate that turned the tide back to the Obama-Biden ticket in that election.

👍

And yes, President Obama’s performance was much better in the second debate.

👍

I agree with you 100%. He has accomplished a tremendous amount.
Now, someone has to convince him to step aside, and the Dems have to figure out how to replace him with a strong candidate, preferably someone who had not been chasing the position for years. Someone who doesn't really want the job but agrees to do it to bring the party together because it is so critical to win this election, and Biden does not look like he can do it.

The names that come to my mind:
Michelle Obama
Sherrod Brown
Enough with this Michelle Obama. Like RFK Jr., she has no training/credentials for the job whatsoever, and she'd likely be the first one to tell you that. You might as well suggest Oprah Winfrey.

The most believable quick substitute would be Gavin Newsom, I think. But if the Republicans aren't willing to let loose of a corrupt felon and rapist, why should the Democrats be knee-jerk in dropping someone so experienced he can run rings around Trump even in a daze and has a competent staff around him who wouldn't later refuse to endorse him?

It's all fine to toss out jokes, but at the end of the day, one of these two people will be your next President. Seriously, which one is the better choice? None of the above is not an option.

Define "better choice". A shit sandwich on white or wheat is still a shit sandwich. Non of the above or any other candidate is an option, check the ballot for the latter option. People saying there is only two optiins is why the uniparty runs people like this. We are fucked either way, but deep down you must know that.

To be fair they were always going to be screaming rigged.

Right. But this performance last night means they'll have a "B..b..but..." reference point that they shouldn't have had. They got a gift the Dems had no reason or excuse to give them.

Nice. You just posted an opinion piece.

Trump said Biden would increase “everyone’s taxes” by “four times”.

That was bullshit no matter how you slice it, counselor.

2 minutes of focused google-fu would do you a lot more good than fucking yourself with a gigantic steel cactus again. Of course it won't feel as good as the cactus but at least you won't be a drooling idiot when its over.

I heard someone mention that Biden would struggle to get a job as Greeter at Walmart, I have to agree on the basis of that dismal performance. He's gone rapidly downhill since a few months back.

Trump didn't impress much more; blatant lies that his followers won't care about, repetition that he'll only accept any result that shows he won. His followers won't care about that either.

Quite how the GOP has morphed into a party where their candidate is funded by Moscow due to repeated bankruptcies and frauds in the US, but they don't care, is astounding. They should prefer a rattlesnake to the lying fraudster insurrectionist sex offender felon.

Hey dumb fuck, find where Biden said he would quadruple taxes for everyone.
