I fucking love this song so much. Linked a month or two ago during decades week. I just really, really hope you've seen video of them performing this live? It's the only thing that can make this song any better.

The steel drmbs might not unusual, being used in a song like this isn't the status quo. I love how creative Perry Farrell is. Whether Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros, or solo, his music is always captivating.

The theremin solo mid song is a unique sound... and also... I just love this song.

I remember the first time I played this on vinyl..loud, the rolling whirring from one side to the other then into guitar and drum call and response blew my mind, best on a good stereo with big speakers haha

Harpsichord and clarinet. This whole album is an absolute delight. I've listened to it so many times.

Ah man. My mum always used to play this mixtape on family roadtrips and this song was on it. Just briefly I was right back there! Eating jellysweets and being a total pain the ass. Thank you.

Maybe this is cheating a little because none of these are prominently featured in the song but rather sprinkled here and there and fitting in right where they should be. A bit of a departure from my other posts but I listen to other music too, not just heavy metal, lol.

This song has coughing, whistles, car alarms, an alarm clock, all seamlessly integrated with the beat and her flow.

This song has some really cool dissonant harmonies (is that what I should call them? Is that an oxymoron?). I’ve seen them called “crunchy harmonies” on TikTok (which is where I discovered this song). Whatever it is, it tickles my brain in the most perfect way.

I'm going to go with "an interesting vocal skill" for 100, Alex. Now I should preface this by saying that it was probably only 'mind-blowing' to me because I'm pretty ignorant about the technical side of music... but it was not until I was a full-grown adult, and finally had access to visual concert footage of this song instead of just my classic studio album version, that I realized the hypnotic, droning, warbling, strange and beautiful background effect that makes the song even more unique is none other than the lovely Kim Deal. Maybe I'm the only person in the world who was unaware of this... but I wasn't even sure that it was a human voice when I was younger (an instrument perhaps, or a synthetic invention)... much less the voice of the amazing Kim. I always liked her, but she got even sexier when I finally joined everyone else by having this overdue realization!

I'm going for peaceful with a hint of haunt.

This is a cover of Lykke Li's song "I Follow Rivers." When I heard it being played on an episode of True Detective, I was like ooooooohhhh, I like this cover. The original is the best, but this feels very 3 a.m.

In 1997, Cheap Trick was poised for a comeback. After several lackluster albums, they had a new album, new energy, on a new label, Red Ant. No corporate pressure for a hit, no push for outside writers to recapture the magic of their last hit --just freedom. And that eponymous album, their second with that title, was brilliant, just a great example of the strong songwriting of their earlier releases. It is an outstanding rock album. Very soon after release, to great reviews, Red Ant became Dead Ant, and folded. And what should have been a triumph faded. But I love this album.

This is the opening track, and the drum brake drew me in immediately. This is three AM, not when you try to go back to sleep, but when there is a knock on your door. It is a song about imagination. It is a song about availability. It is a song about lust. It is a song about...urgency.

I like the low key energy of Lykke Li's original, but I enjoy the atmospheric tone of this one. A "haunt" describes it well.

However, there's a very high likelihood that I'm watching reruns of sitcoms I've already seen a dozen times before. So I'll go with the "Parks and Rec" theme song and opening credits.
