🎵 Monthly Song Challenge 🎵

Oh snap Tig. Do you also get off on participating in a 4 part Harmony, a capella? Or any harmony done a capella really? Cuz I do. In HS one of our friends didn’t have a radio in their car, and since most of us were in chorus, we usually had the makings of a quartet in the car and we would sing our chorus songs. Sometimes we would bring in a portable tape player 🤣
Did you keep any?

Day 15: A song with a musical element that you don’t often find

Back in the late 80s, moderately successful speed metal band Helloween changed the world.

They put out two albums, Keepers of the Seven Keys, part 1 and 2, two albums which basically invented the european power metal sound. Also the first appearance of singer Michael Kiske, the man with the voice of an angel.

Fast forward. It's 1993. Helloween haven't been able to recreate the Keepers-sound. They're trying new things now. Experimenting. Enter; Chameleon. An album for which there's no real good explanation. 3 song writers all blaming each other for this hilarious CATastrophe.

Album bombs. Tour goes to shit. Kiske and drummer Ingo fired from the band. And behind them they leave a.... SKA album?

Is SKA metal a thing? Chameleon is the only album I've ever heard that fuses metal with trombones, saxophones, trumpets.

A guilty pleasure

I used to listen to them. When I was in the Navy, many moons ago, a friend likened SKA to Reggae Polka.... and that moniker stuck with me...lol Now I have Reggae Polka Metal in my head.....lol

Day 15: A song with a musical element that you don’t often find

I love this band, and I love this album so very, very much. They already fit this prompt by having (formerly) Anna Bulbrook and Mimi Peschet playing both violin and occasional cello. But this one goes further. All of the percussion in this song is provided by a #2 pencil scratching against paper. They call it out while EQing it before the song starts.

And this song is a banger. If you cannot relate to this song, I envy you a little. But I also pity you far more.
