They had it comingDay 31: A song that reminds you of a happy memory
I don't really like karaoke or bars but one of my happiest song-related memories is singing this song at the local gay bar with my friends. And no, none of us dared attempt the poor Hungarian's lament. It's just the perfect "I support women's rights and women's wrongs" number.
You should try it on me. Inbox is open.I used to serenade a gal in college with this song after a a few puffs. No wonder she couldn’t resist me
That part got me choked up. Thank you for sharing his memory.Last time I saw Jerry was about two months ago, when I put a bottle of cranberry juice and a Lucky Lager bottle cap on his tombstone. That one sucked...
Thank you. He died quickly, and far too young. He was a veteran, joining even before "don't ask, don't tell," at a time when admitting who he was and who he loved would have gotten him thrown out at the very least. He was a firefighter, and served overseas in the first Gulf War. He could have been angry, or bitter. What he was was a good man. An asshole at times, but who isn't? But a good person. I loved him dearly. My only wish was that he came out to us sooner. It would have been easier on him to not be afraid we would find out. We knew, man, we knew. That part got me choked up. I have a dear friend from college who we all knew was gay and we didn’t care, but he stayed closeted , married, and had a child before coming out. Unfortunately he sowed his wild oats and has lived with HIV for the last 25+ years because we lived in an era where an open relationship between two men was taboo, so trolling for anonymous sex was necessary.Thank you. I did theater in NYC in the late 80s. (Well, I tried to do theater. Theater was not as interested, and decided we should just be friends.) People dying, before any of the cocktails. It was such a screwed up thing, and everyone in the business was terrified.I have a dear friend from college who we all knew was gay and we didn’t care, but he stayed closeted , married, and had a child before coming out. That doesn’t work, I tried it the other dayYou should try it on me. Inbox is open.
It does, I swear, but there's a prerequisite to success...have boobs. I don't make the rulesThat doesn’t work, I tried it the other day
I treat others how I am treated. I’ve found that’s the best way to keep life fair. So I don’t predict great success with “my DMs are open” with meIt does, I swear, but there's a prerequisite to success...have boobs. I don't make the rules![]()
I love Nate Ruess voice. It is nice to see them stripped down to just trio for this once again. It takes the song back to its bones, and it is such a good song. Also, The Bing Lounge was such a fantastic little venue. Unfortunately, it is closed down.Day 31: A song that reminds you of a happy memory.
I don't have a great long story here. And nobody wants to read that shit on a Sunday holiday evening anyways. This song is so simple and pure and pretty and its underlying theme of being there for someone you've given your life to resonates with me, for sure. I hope someone else enjoys it as much as I do.
Oh man, I love the Hoodoo Gurus! I wore out Mars Needs Guitars on cassette.Day 31: A song that reminds you of a happy memory
