Day 25: A song from the 00s
Sorry for all the commentary. I have to think back to each decade and what I was doing… where I was at…

The 2000s… started like the 90s. Fun and good. One more kid… then 9/11. Back into the army.

Altho I was deployed 2x I was able to keep up w family and music. My wife and step son and friends would rip CDs for me. There was never much time to listen to them tho. I was a tanker and we were always on the go.

I got into old school country in a big way when I was in the army stationed at Ft Hood. Also kept up with some music. Fell in love with Neko Case and Wilco too.

When I got out in 2006, I waffled for a while. Took me a while to readjust even tho I got a good job right after getting out. Late oughta was a great revival for 80s punk and Oi!

I was bald by now and started putting on my docs and flight jacket again. Saw one of the best shows of my life - maybe 2008. Stigma, The Disasters and Street Dogs. Hadn’t really been to a punk show in 10-12 years… it was like being 16 again. I member riding home all giddy.

Day 25: A song from the 00s
Ok fuck I meant to post this earlier but the day was crazy and then I got drunk and here we are. Now you get my drunk rambles.

This was a harddddddd one for me. These were my formative music years. I wanna post 20 songs. But I won’t. Rules and everything 🙄

I could post Bright Eyes. Right? Of course I could. It wouldn’t be wrong. My favorite band.

I’m gonna go a different direction though. For the love of pop punk and emo. Which doesn’t get enough love. Definitely not on this thread. I’m guessing most of you don’t like it. That’s ok. Some of you have shitty music taste. I keep my mouth shut about that.

Ok so back in high school this album came out and my friends and I were so obsessed with it. We followed them around New England going to all their local shows and getting there hours early so we could set up camp in line and be the first to get in the venue. And we’d get to see the band when they showed up and unloaded their stuff and they’d come and talk to us and we’d imagine that they thought we were hot. Good times.
Then during their set in between songs I’d always scream the name of the favorite song I wanted them to play which they never did because it’s acoustic but I begged anyway. One show they did play it and I’m just gonna say it was for me, ok? It was for me.

So fuck you if you don’t like emo music. I will forever blast this in my car just like I did at 16.

I didn't want to 'haha' that post, because it was very deserving of 'love'.
Luv what you had to say... luv the story behind the song... and luv the song!

But I just wanted to 'haha' (and luv) one part, so I'll quote it here: "I’m guessing most of you don’t like it. That’s ok. Some of you have shitty music taste. I keep my mouth shut about that." I luv this! But I did like your song, too... so no worries.

Thank you for keeping your mouth shut about our (sometimes) shitty music taste! I know that I occasionally post some misfires... lol.
You do a fantastic job with this thread. Thank you!

I think the stories behind the selection are just as important. One song could make someone jump up and dance, and another break down in tears just because of the memory attached to it.
