Pick your own theme - Chicago 2010s

I’m not a huge fan of modern pop punk… most of its wimpy horse shit in my opinion. But I do like Lawrence Arms. They called out the warped tour for the money maker that it is, keeping it punk rock.

And a nice nod to Chicago.

The Lawrence Arms -The Slowest Drink at the Saddest Bar on the Snowiest Day in the Greatest City

60s - Blues
70s - Funk/Disco
80s - Punk
90s - Americana
00s - Indie/PowerPop
10s - Pop Punk

It does make me think of an Internet question regarding what’s the last original non-animated film IP character you could dress up as for Halloween and everyone would know who you were. Napoleon Dynamite might be the correct answer. Sadly.
Avatar (idk if that counts), little miss sunshine, 40 year old virgin (particularly the waxing scene), Superbad(I’m thinking of a costume as the McLovin’ fake ID), Juno, the hangover, step brothers

This was an interesting one to think about! I kept thinking of ones but then realizing they were either based on a comic, or a sequel/remake. Would new Star Wars movies with new characters count?

What’s the newest of those? 2009 for Avatar? Have we really, as a culture, not created any recognizable new IP’s in the last 15 or so years? It’s wild if true. I would absolutely say Star Wars does not count. The brand is the brand.

Coulda gone so many different ways with this as there is so much good music coming outta chi-town these daze. Beachbunny, cloud Nothings, Flatfoot56, Slow Pulp, Alklaine Trio, The Tossers, Ratboys… I could go on and on…

But this is a good one… poppy, jangly, garagey, and slackerly nostalgic…

Day 30: A [Prom Night Song to Get Laid to] song from the 20s
And today my theme falls apart. I have no idea what songs from the past few years might get played at a prom. But this seems a somewhat likely candidate? Maybe?
2022 - "If You Love Her" - Forest Blakk ft. Meghan Trainor

I love this ridiculously long title!

🙋🏻‍♀️ Step Brothers?

Day 30: A song from a movie/show that has inspired popular Halloween costumes from the 20s.

I didn’t think this through! This one was really hard. But I’m going with Carmy. Not sure that this is a popular costume, but eat me, I love this show and it’s my theme!

Let Down - Radiohead.

Day 30: A 🌍 foreign 🌏 language 🌎 song from the 20s

I believe that I hit every continent except for Antarctica so back to Europe for some Irish language hip hop. The video is surprisingly relatable, who hasn't had intrusive thoughts about their coworkers at some point? No, just me? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Sayōnara - Kneecap and Paul Hartnoll
I’m so late to Kneecap but I’m obsessed.

Hey folks! Little update here:

It’s been a great two years running this thread. Longer than I ever originally envisioned it going! I appreciate all the posters—those who have been here from the start, those new, and those who have been in and out. I’ve had a lot of fun, but now I’m going to take a step back and hand over the reins. @Mr_bogey has been away from the thread for a bit but he was one of the ground floor originals. He’s been a great friend to me, loves music, and loves this thread.
Is it questionable to leave the thread in the hands of the reason we have the one song rule? TBD 😝

I’ll still be around and participating, but he’s going to be posting the prompts. I’ll update the first post periodically but, if you don’t see the prompt there, just look for the latest post from Bogey.

PYOT was a bit of a cop out for me because of not being in not the best headspace, but it actually turned out fabulous. So many great theme choices and songs!

If you picked a theme and stuck with it for all 7 days of decades week, you earned a Second Song Pass (good for one additional song for a prompt next month).
