I have a theory that the best decade of music is the decade when you were doing the most things that the music was the soundtrack to. So in my case, yeah the 90’s. But it’s not a thing I’d argue hard.
I always thought it has to be the decade around when you graduate high school
It’s a tough argument!

I graduate high school in 85 but actually don’t think music of the 80s was all that good. It was ok, but there was a lot of crap, imo.

I was barely alive in the 60s, but that seemed to be the best decade. Maybe the 90s a close second????

Yeah, I mean, part of why I won’t argue strongly is that while I agree there are objective technical skills to art, arts “goodness” to me is entirely about it’s subjective impact on my world and existence. You can tell me all you want that the Beatles musicianship is the best ever and I may or may not agree on that but don’t care either way cause they weren’t on the radio when anything I cared about was happening. So my appreciation or lack there of is very cold and impersonal. While I love the fuck outta you know the Go-Gos because they were always on the radio during good times.

agreed. It’s a ridiculously subjective and impossible.

I wonder what was the worst decade for music??? 70s? 80s? 😇

After getting out of the army in 93 my musical tastes had changed. Music had changed and so had I. I started college and had to start my life.

Hardcore was out (except for NYC HC: vision and madball), the next gen of punk was getting started, but I wasn’t feeling it. Grunge was still there but dying. I got into britpop in a big way. Blur, Pulp, Manic Street Preachers.

And some of the punk/indie rock was good too: Thomas Jefferson Slave Apts, Guided by Voices, Prisonshake.

Garage rock came back: hellacopters, the hives, Demonics, Riverboat Gamblers.

And Oi! and working class punk restarted - the Dropkicks, Cockney Rejects reformed.

It was another great decade in music - maybe the best!! How to choose??

St. Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart
Speaking of Neil Young. Great version.

Day 24: A song from the 90s
Unlike the 80s day, I had this one in the bag. I was 23 when it came out, and my first thought was "how do these guys know me?"

"And though I ought to be learning I feel like a veteran/ Of 'oh, I like your poetry but I hate your poems'"

Connection - Elastica

When it was apparent where we were headed a couple of days ago when we embarked on decades week, I thought of 'Connection' as the song that I wanted for the nineties... but somewhere in there I spaced, and completely forgot about it.
So I'm thrilled to see that you didn't drop the ball like I did (lol), because this one 'needed' to be in here. Thank you.
Great song selection!
