🎵 Monthly Song Challenge 🎵

There were some good songs in the 80’s, but to me the music changed in such a negative way, by the end of the decade I had completely stopped listening to any “current” radio stations and have never gone back. Sorry, just not a fan.

But I do like this from 1980…

The Kings - This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide
I have no memory of this song on radio rotation but it was on compilation CD I bought (Richard Blade’s Falshback Favorite's ftw) and I looooved it. It was in contention for the Somg for getting ready as it’s also set the tone for many an enjoyable evening.

Probably not in the top 20 songs I would have chosen from The Smiths but still loved it.

I don't consider it one of my very favourite songs by The Smiths, necessarily... and yet when I listen to a marathon of their music back-to-back, including several songs that I certainly claim to prefer, it's almost always 'Paint a Vulgar Picture' which ends up stuck in my head somehow. So I don't know whether that actually signifies something... or nothing! 😂

Day 23: A song from the 80s

I have been dreading this one. Way too many options. Metallica. Iron Maiden. New Order. Van Halen. U2, especially early U2. Cyndi Lauper. Big Daddy Kane. Beasties. George Clinton. PE. Prince. (Prince alone caused me to break down.) Grand Master Flash. Black Flag. Idle Threat. Adam and the Ants. Adam Ant. Bruce Springsteen. Motörhead. Psychedelic Furs. English Beat. Elvis Costello. The Replacements. Yaz. Blondie. GAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

I almost went with Total Eclipse of the Heart, but I flipped a coin, and the original version of "Elegia" won.
I'm going to go take an aspirin and a hot shower now.

Again, fantastic band choice and a great song but not in the top 15/20 I would choose.

1) if it wasn't for Orgy covering Blue Monday, i'd probably have never heard of them, though Someone Like You was used on the Haggard soundtrack.

2) the 80's were as good as the 60's in just about every genre. Impossible to pick out 1 song. We could do this one twice a week and not come anywhere near scratching the surface.

So some of you may remember when this prompt came up last year and I posted a song for each year of the 1980s. This is a new year and I am a reformed man. Our hostess with the mostess is now spanking me for behaving. So as hard as it is, I will be only posting 1 song for this, the greatest decade in music history. I know some will argue for the 70s and a few will claim the 60s. Those people would be dead wrong. The 80s is music heaven. There are so many ways to go here and please don't take my critiques seriously. This is all in good fun.

That said, the 80s gave us the perfect song --- it's timeless and magical. While there are many great choices for this spot, I am compelled to educate the unwashed masses. So w/o further ado, please enjoy this masterpiece: 🤣🤣🤭🤭🤭

You don't have to tell me I'm an asshole, I already knew.

Making Movies is such a brilliant album. Side A is perfect.

So much better than that killers cover you posted.
