Pink Orchid 2023: Story Event for Women-Centric Erotica - Official Support Thread

Her actions are rational and consistent.

This, or that if her actions are not rational they’re so because of her and not only because that would be hot for the male character in the story and/or the reader.

I’ve written one that I’m planning to publish soon-ish. I’m thrilled others are also getting something ready! As someone who hosts an event it is my worst fear that my story will be the only one in it 😄 equivalent maybe to “I’m having a birthday party and nobody shows up”… so thanks in advance guys!

I'm still getting nowhere. The goal I've set is demanding. I want the story to be about a woman who begins as passive, or people-pleasing to a fault. Through the events of the story, she becomes dissatisfied. She then changes her interpersonal approach, seeking her own satisfaction.

That does sound kind of demanding. What therein is being problematic? That kind of transformation sounds like it could come with a lot of drama or some sort of crisis, and I guess it’s not inherently erotic to write. I once wrote a story that was somewhat similar, but it was just about the woman herself, it was a masturbation story, so I kind of skipped all that drama part.

Yeah, lots of drama, and probably very long, to establish the character and world-build her situation. I'd still give it a try, if I can work out something that isn’t well-worn or cliched. I’ll keep the brain churning, and hope something develops.

Sorry about the duplicate. My system crashed in the middle of sending it, and I couldn't tell if it went through.

Can someone explain to a simpleton what is meant by: “makes sense on her own terms?”

Make the females in the story something other than a caricature.

For example, those porno where the pizza delivery woman shows up and somehow within 30 seconds she is naked and they are paying her with sex. That would be a case of someone not making sense on her own terms, she is just sort of a male fantasy.

Absolutely love the idea of this. I always try to write strong female characters and this will be a chance and a challenge for me to make them the central character.
One question: if I submit a story shortly will it be published now or held till March?

It will be published now, and in March it will be on the event list when it comes out. Welcome aboard!

Yes, I'm really happy with mine. I look forward to reading all of them.
BTW, this is my first story in the third person. I'd appreciate any criticism.
I'll read (actually, I've converted it to MP3 to listen today), because it sounds interesting from the description.

At first glance, I see too many paragraphs beginning with "Jessica" on the first LitE page. So, that may be something to consider when writing third person.

What app/software do you use for that?

I use "Speech2Go". It took about 8 minutes for me to copy his 20K word story and convert it to an hour and 56-minute MP3. If you search for Speech2Go, you'll see it costs about $129, but that for the version they push with six voices. They sell it for far less with just the two build-in voices which I use ("David" and "Zira" for male or female voice.)

On one of my first stories, somebody (EB?) pointed out to me that I had started four or five paragraphs in a row with "She."

I became very aware of doing that, and I set myself a rule to never start more than two consecutive paragraphs with the same word. It's an easy habit to fall into.

@MelissaBaby I think that's something we all struggle with. I do a she/her or he/him word search as part of my editing process and make sure in each instance it wouldn't be better with a proper noun.

Thank you. I'd love to hear what you think after you listen to it. That's a great idea BTW.

Hi all. I'm ready to publish my story but have a question. It's a love story between two women with very little sex in it. Do other authors (maybe with more experience of this subject) think I should put it in Romance, stating that it's a F/F love story, or should I put it in Lesbian Sex?
I'm not overly worried about reader numbers but neither do I want regular Romance readers to be put off by two women or regular Lesbian Sex readers to be put off by the lack of sex.
Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

Good question and one with which I've struggled too. There's a few of my stories I wish I could swap to a different category in hindsight.

If it goes in Lesbian, where I suspect most readers are male, they have an expectation of wall to wall beaver licking - anything less and they'll be disappointed. So long as you make it clear your romance features some lesbian sex - include it as an introductory paragraph, then you should be okay.

These days I include the intro paragraph with various warnings such as strong language, same sex, transgender sex, nuclear strikes, zombie flesh eaters and alien attacks.

Ha, I was answering but stickygirl beat me to it, and as it happens my advice is the exact opposite 😁

From what I’ve understood, readers in the Lesbian category love romance, the sappier the better, and are not easily put off by lack of sex. I’m not sure how Romance readers handle lesbian stories, but then the readers there are quite communicative so they’ll probably let you know if that’s what you decide.
