Geeks, Nerds, Enthusiasts...share your thoughts with me!

Wheel of Time is possibly be my favourite book series of all time.

The sense of scale, time, character development is excellent.

I was very disappointed by the TV show.

Currently trying to read the last of The Dresden Files: Battle Grounds. Worrying that Jim Butcher has written himself into a literary cul-de-sac.

Most evenings currently you'll find me on Discord playing multiplayer TotalWar Warhammer 3. My true inner geek getting some digital time, when I'm not painting in the background.
Read Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera series when you get the chance.

Anyone else enjoyed the Dark Tower series? Read it 20 years ago and I still think about it constantly.
No I've never read anything by Stephen King but a similar series for me is Pullman's His Dark Materials. Not sure if it was just the age I read it at but that was an amazing read. I guess I should re-read it and see how I feel 🤔

It's a shame that Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor is going to be regarded as an experiment that failed rather than a genuinely good actress saddled with awful writing.

I still haven't watched it. Starting from the beginning of 9 so will get there some time next spring I think 🤔

Read the original trilogy, not yet read his others in the series. Reread it recently became if below. Still enjoyed it, but it's not as good as others books I like.

Have you watched the BBCs adaptation? If not, I'd recommend it. It's one of the better takes on an interesting book.

I’ll add this to my list!

This is my favorite series of books which contain the best ending to a series ever.
I've read every single book by him and these 7 (well now 8) are among his finest.

I made the mistake of going through a subscription I have...and now I have a further 5 games to add to my playlist....🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm committed to The Wheel of Time, so any series longer than 3 books isn't really going to get much attention from me at the moment.

Are there any good stand alone novels that you would recommend?

Not sure this fits the theme of the thread, but there's an amazing scifi novel that is being made into a movie I am VERY much looking forward to. The book was incredible. It was written by Andy Weir (the man that wrote, "The Martian").

Consider giving "Project Hail Mary" a read. Everyone I've talked to about the book literally couldn't put it down.

If you're enthusiastic about it, it fits ☺️

Thank you for the recommendation, I will certainly check it out

Most people are familiar with Orson Scott Card’s Enders Game.

But I really enjoyed his Homecoming series. It’s very thought provoking. Is anyone else a fan?

A trilogy I would recommend is Joe Albercrombies 'First Law'.

It's a grim dark fantasy, with morally grey characters who at least have one major flaw, and our mostly driven by the desire to survive rather than the intention to do what is 'good' or 'right', as we usually see in fantasy.

Abercrombie is known for his characters, and I would say deservedly so, and I would say he is a genius. He crafts characters who commit terrible acts, but makes them sympathetic, so they we still root for them despite their common wrongdoings. Characters like Logan are just incredible, as you see how his regrets weigh upon him, and his effort to be a better man, and how circumstance stops him from being so.

Abercrombie's writing style is magnificent. He alters his entire choice of vocabulary to enter the mind and vernacular of the perspective he is writing from, so that each figure we see the story from automatically becomes so unique and well-crafted, with a depth rarely achieved, whilst still seeming natural and assuming a fluid grace to the story.

I am so behind on The Dresden Files that it is shameful. Was really disappointed with the adaptation on SciFi years ago.

My wife & I enjoy Pokemon Go. We both have raid apps so getting 5 stars out of gyms is not an issue. The only issue is time. Her career is taking off, and she wants to continue her higher education. I do as well, but mine is not career essential, so hers takes priority.

I was let down by Netflix's Sandman. The actor they chose was spot on. However the race and gender swap of the iconic John Constantine was just awful, and unfortunately for the marvelous Gwendoline Christie, Tom Ellis was just too difficult an act to follow as Lucifer Morningstar.

My big hobby is Warhammer 40K. I met my wife after losing a game in her hometown. I had travelled to meet a friend from online, we had a fun game and hung out, he won, we laughed it off. I decided I needed a beer, and noticed this attractive redhead who was all smiles in a low cut camisole and jeans. I was just about to make my approach, when I was introduced to the tall statuesque blonde that I would eventually marry. She had the most beautiful blue eyes, and we talked for hours, about all kinds of things. It was the most random meeting, but I knew she was special from the moment I first laid eyes on her.

My other big thing is agriculture, but more plants than livestock. My wife is flabbergasted that I know tons about any plant that produces fruit, vegetables, herbs, or textile, but have no interest in flowers. Currently I am trying to cultivate some saplings of pear trees, cherry trees, fig trees, and a couple mulberry trees. The pear tree that these saplings came from always produced the best pears, but is dying. The cherries did very well, and a local artisan baker bought 5 bushels. They are a firm believer that cupcakes are now passe' and the new trend will be tarts. I love figs and mulberries. Figs trees tend to attract a lot of bugs though. Mosquitoes and certain other insects hate mulberries (and cherry trees) and I hope to find a beekeeper to establish some strong hives, to not only increase yields through improved pollination, but hopefully the honey bees keep the beetles and wasps away from my fruit.

Ssshhh. We don't talk about the Warhammer.

A moment of laxity spawns a lifetime of heresy.

Admittedly, I have fever fandoms than a lot of folks here. That said, I am looking forward to the The Last of Us series that’s coming up on HBO. I *loved* the first game, and bought it almost entirely on the teasers and trailers. And, I appreciated the second game, even if a bunch of people hated the story.

So, I’m excited to see the trailers for it, but it’s a hell of an interesting concept.

I do want to play this game but it's one of those that is within a long list 🫣

I didn't know they were bringing out a TV show though! I will keep an eye out for it and hopefully I'll be able to watch it at some point (we don't have HBO).
