Chaos... to be continued

I know it’s supposed to be amazing and all - I know a whole bunch of people who are in a Cold Shower group who swear by them. I just don’t have that will power I guess! 🤣

In the shower at home: only for a few seconds if I am severely overheated

The ocean or a big pool is great for a cold dip, the shower at home doesn't produce that kind of reaction in me. I want that piping hot

People in Ireland started sea swimming in groups when the pandemic was in full swing as a way to get out of the house and stop them from going nuts. During all seasons too.

Never been to Ireland, but given the climate, I bet that water is pretty cold year round

It is wonderful if you can go the sauna straight afterwards!
There was no sauna. Every year the Special Olympics hosts a polar bear plunge fundraiser at the Jersey Shore. Thousands of people show up to do it. They have warming stations and truckloads of hot chocolate. But there's far too many people for saunas.

Ok, I tried to drop subtle hints and you didn't take them. So I tried to drop bigger hints and now you're trying to portray me as a bitch for wanting this thread to be fun and chaos instead of your current work issues. Do I care if you talk about your work drama? Absolutely not. Do I care that you talk about it here, in our thread? Yes.

I have work stress. I have medical conditions. I have anxiety. I was awake until 2am tossing and turning, worried about work changes that are coming up. One worker retiring, one worker getting promoted and one worker having a risky surgery followed by cancer treatments. So my team of 6 is going down to 3 and will have to handle the same amount of work. And another coworker is in the hospital for Covid, pneumonia and a blood clot in her lungs. I'm also adjusting to married life again. Other people have health issues. Other people have anxiety. It's not just you. We all set that aside for this thread and focus on fun stuff. This thread is the ONE place on Lit that until now has stayed drama free and I would like it to stay that way.

I don't mind occasional talking about work woes and I love that we're all so caring for each other when we're sick. However, your stuff is every single day and it's stressing me out. I spend 95% of my Lit time in this thread. Can you please start your own thread where people can answer your questions and give you support? I'm already stressed out and I don't need to be made to feel like a horrible person because I have run out of spoons because of the crap in my own life and can't deal with yours. I'm sitting here crying with shaking hands trying to type this because now I'm afraid that I'm ruining what has been such a joy to so many people by simply asking you to get your support in another thread or in PMs.
On day one we committed no drama and no no controversy. And at times, as can be expected, we've drifted. But usually we end up back on track with the fun that this thread is supposed to be.

I'm all for the caring and love that we show here. It's what makes this thread what it is. Again, one of the reasons this place is unlike others on Lit.

But one thing Lit also has is the ability to create new threads. Maybe the working / employment stuff would be a good fit for that. And not just for this situation, but for anyone's work issues. There are a lot of good people on Lit. People that could be knowledgeable and helpful in these areas. People that could be used as a sounding board and offer advice. And people that can just flat out offer their support and listen.

Personally, I have jumped out of the thread numerous times when all the work stuff has taken hold. But that's my choice. I also have enough work and home crap dealing with elders, etc, that I just want to come someplace where I can smile and be pounced on. And the work drama doesn't do it for me.

@LaisDeMarieDeFrance .. Please do not feel like a you're a horrible person. You're absolutely not. Take it from someone who knows you well. You've just reach a breaking point with this that others, including myself, have probably kept internalized. And sometimes combustibles can blow up.
**Hugs** hon.

I love all you Chaosians.

Now someone please give me a pounce!

Yes! The Atlantic is a few degrees colder than the Irish Sea too.

I am a fan of hot showers but I always give my self a cold blast at the end before getting out. It’s good for your circulation @cheekygirl75 and you get used to it 😂😂😍

You might underestimate the Gulf Stream. Not even closely as cold as at the same level in the US east coast.

Interesting. The Gulf Stream obviously keeps Ireland and the British Isles much warmer than a location that far north would otherwise be, but surprised to hear the water is that warm. So warmer than the hungover Jersey Shore swims I'll be taking in a few weeks

I know, I know 🤣 It’s just making myself do it! I do in the summer, but other times of year 🥶

We did Disney in January, and I don’t know that the temperature got above 75 degrees all week, but on our free day, she still wanted to go into the pool at the resort. Guess who took that particular bullet?
I did Disney in December once. Same situation with the cooler weather. What was great was that we had light jackets on and were real comfortable and everyone else was bundled like it was the Arctic.

And I was wise enough not to take the bullet for the resort pool!

My Dad enjoyed it. Maybe he's a masochist? 😂

I don't know what the water temperature there actually is, but Gulf Stream even affects all Scandinavia.

The cold water is invigorating. Was at a hot springs in March and took a dip in the cold pool as well. Felt amazing

A swim in the cold ocean in the morning is also the best hangover cure on the planet
In that case, I'll just skip the getting drunk part. Brrrrrr

We call those "summer water temps" !
Yeah, just looked up the average water temps for Hampton Beach, where I grew up swimming. We definitely started in June, when it says the average high is a about 60 F (17.2 C). The highest average is August when it gets up to a high of 68 F (20.7 C). Refreshing! 🤣
