Also called deer flys. They aren't supposed to feed on people, they can only reproduce on the body of deers, elks etc. But they make mistakes and feed on humans as well.

For some reason in Finland this has become an irritating problem, whereas the deer flys in Sweden have learned to avoid humans.

My eyes got caught on deer flys and thought this will be a fun story about Rudolph

The problem with French society at that time was the huge gap between the rich and poor that the shrinking middle class left. Here in the US, there's government assistance that was NOT available via the French monarchy and the middle class is healthy. I'd say countries like India and Pakistan would have revolutions before we would. I've never seen a slum in the US like I have over there.

I was fishing off the Baja peninsula a few weeks ago. Even in Cabo, there are "islands" of opulence, neighborhoods tucked away in an otherwise third-world slum town. Outside of Cabo? They live like rats. I'll never go back.
A modern American Revolution would require an uprising of rich, white Republicans joining arms with uneducated Proud Boys and Qanon wackos to form a new order. Of course, they'd all have Covid before the first shots were fired.
