Ok, this one is a thinker.

What are the negative preconceptions that people generally have about your best character trait?
Simply put, what's your best character trait and what is the biggest drawback that you notice because of it?

This is really interesting.
I’d say...1) hard working. It’s a good trait, to me, but I’ve been told I’m relentless and don’t ‘enjoy the journey’. Whatever that means. And 2) sarcastic. I don’t take a lot of things too seriously but that can be seen as flippant and unserious. It is also a fine line between sarcastic and deflecting, which I definitely also do.

Thank you maam! A question is only as good as it's answers. I'm so interested in the dichotomy of personality traits.

I say ask away!

ok, thanks

First, I think friendliness is one of the most intelligent traits, as long as it doesn’t pass actually pass to nativity by giving them too much power to the unknown, which really, is not common in adults with typical cognitive function. It is just fact that most people respond positively when treated positively. Approaching someone with friendliness will usually result in receiving friendliness back. Approaching with distrust will more likely result in distrust. Contempt to contempt. Being open will usually provide positive experiences, even beyond expectations. I also agree on the pretentious aspect as well. I don’t think one can easily identify the most intelligent person in the room, just the person who thinks they are the most intelligent, because the most intelligent person has long known pretentiousness is counterproductive because it results in a negative affective presence, and that accomplishes very little. Friendliness, kind, and a bit more unassuming are part of the core of a more positive affective presence. I would think smart people would be smart enough to figure that out.

However, there are indeed people who are intelligent yet continue to work against the predominant nature of humans. Why? Do you think it is maybe the overabundance of negative media has simply created a cognitive distortion, such as kindness to strangers is more likely to result in victimization rather than the reality of it being less likely to result in victimization? Or is it maybe a byproduct of being raised in such privilege where one has simply always had their environment so altered that the default is the assumption everyone will try to please them and they have no concept the real world it is reciprocal?

I so agree with this Justa. I think some people actually need to be told this though. It may seen obvious but it's just not to some people.

There are also people who will value control over kindness or are just plain twatwaffles. And those people will always cut their nose off to spite their face in an effort to feel superior.

Good stuff lady!

Is there a bad or musical artist you wish you could have seen play live before they broke up or passed away??
What's the best show you ever saw live?

I would have loved to see queen play live, and my favorite show of all time has to be blink 182

Michael Jackson

I haven't been to a major show, only small independent shows. Only concert I tried to watch, I got kicked out for being belligerent. Being young, dumb and under the influence of alcohol

I wish I could have seen Prince play live at First Avenue, the club he learned in Minneapolis. I don’t think I understood Prince until after he died or had any idea how skilled he was in general as a musician and more specifically with a guitar.

One of the best shows I ever saw was the opening act at an O.A.R. concert. Normally the opening acts for these concerts are a throw away. The opening band was Robert Rudolph and the Family Band, and they were pretty amazing.

Garth Brooks and Pink put on so,e of the best concerts I have ever attended.

I never got to see Petty. Wish I had.

I've seen lots of great concerts over the years. Frank Sinatra to BB King, Zappa and the Grateful Dead. The single best was Talking Heads on their Stop Making Sense tour. The venue was electrified from the first note.

I really wish I could've seen David Bowie.
The most fun I've ever had at a concert was at George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.

I would have liked to have seen James Brown..
Best concert? Gloria Estefan. Omg. Incredible energy. This was after her car accident too. She was awesome.

Agree about The Beatles ^^, and I’d add Jim Croce and Johnny Cash.

Best live shows... Pearl Jam and James Taylor

I wish I would’ve gotten off my ass and seen Alice In Chains when they were playing small venues.

Raw energy, Sevendust was a great show. Not too big they wouldn’t interact with the crowd.

...James Taylor...

The very first song I remember hearing on the radio was Fire And Rain, when I was four. I'd love to see him in concert.

Best show was Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Kenny Loggins playing at the mid-state fair. Yeah the music was great, but what made it the best was being there with my dad.

I saw James Taylor with my dad  . One of those events that will certainly stick with me.

I saw The Ramones at CBGB’s.

*brag*

I’m completely green with envy right now... I’d be bragging too!

INXS - I had the chance to see them at a small venue when I was a freshman in high school and my mom wouldn't let me go.

The best show I ever saw was Rage Against The Machine - the pure energy of that show was incredible.

Musically, the best show I ever saw was the Cowboy Junkies at a venue that held about 150 people. Amazing.

Best show(s) . . .

Boss a few times, the first was at the beginning of Born In The USA tour, venue was only half full. Amazing energy and an amazing show.

Queen. When Freddie was in his prime. If you haven’t seen him, I can’t explain.

Phish (Agora Ballroom, Cleveland, 1991)
Frank Turner (Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, 2018)

I saw the Pogues. In Dublin. With Shane. It was unfuckingbelivable. My camera was confiscated though.

I wish I could have been at 1994 Glastonbury. Pulp. Oasis. Did I mention Pulp?

I also, of course, wish I could have seen Queen. And the Clash. But 1994 Glastonbury is it.

Best show is impossible to pin down - I’ve seen Nirvana. Beastie Boys and Tribe Called Quest. Dropkick Murphy’s- original line up - dozens of times at the Rat.

But recently? I’d have to say The National is right up there with the best performance I’ve been to lately. Chvrches was memorable for many reasons, including just how good they are live.

I really wanted to see Robyn last summer but it didn’t work out. That’s my goal for whenever we are allowed to congregate safely again.

Chester Bennington with Linkin Park I’d have loved to have seen them live.

I’ve seen so many artists, the best ones have been

RHCP
Metallica
James Bay
FFDP
Tom Odell
Aerosmith
Mumford and Sons
Kings of Leon
The Cure
Simple Minds
Travis

I seen Ozzy Ozbourne and Guns n Roses a couple of years ago but it was painful to watch both!

I think Slayer was a surprise as I don’t really like such heavy music but they were absolutely amazing!

This is such a good question. Has no one said Nirvana yet? Like Suz and her INXS story (*sob, Suz!) I had the chance to see Nirvana but my mom said no and to add insult to injury she shrugged off my histrionics with, “You can always see them next time they come around.”

No Mom! No you can’t!

And the best show I’ve ever seen (there have been many) was Metallica in 1997ish. It was just the best, most epic, all around concert experience ever. They had:

Explosions
Strobe lights
Several stages
Men running around on fire
Head banging
Moshing
More fire
Men dangling from the ceiling as if being electrocuted
More fire

AND

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better for my teeny bopper eyes- the lights went black, and a secret stage rose up from the floor (in my memory it was ten feet away from my face) and a spot light turns on and it’s the band - right in front of me! - and they start strumming the first few chords of Nothing Else Matters.

And teenaged Trekka lost her ever loving shit.

ETA: I’ve seen better acts since this show, musically speaking, but I was the perfect age for this kinda head banging pyromaniac monkey business when I went to this show, so, it remains in my head as The Greatest Show I’ve ever seen.

I saw Nirvana. Other than it being cool that I got to see Nirvana, there were much better shows.
