~100,000 coronavirus deaths, as of May 25th, 2020.

Social distancing one week earlier could have saved 36,000 US lives: study

The U.S. could have avoided nearly 36,000 deaths caused by the coronavirus through early May if stay-at-home orders and other social distancing restrictions were implemented just one week earlier, a new study from Columbia University researchers shows.

The study, which focused on transmission in metropolitan areas, found that social distancing measures adopted throughout the nation after March 15 "effectively reduced rates of COVID-19 transmission."

The researchers estimated that had the measures been instituted just one week earlier that the U.S. may have avoided more than 700,000 confirmed cases of the virus and as many as 35,927 deaths that it caused.

Shouldn't you rename the thread, "Congratulations Governors; A new state(s) milestone."

Do you even know how a Federal Republic works?

Prevented, or pushed off to some perfect future with a vaccine/cure?

Have you read this?

???

And as an aside. Not one life has been, or will be, saved by any policy imposed by any government.

Oh, this stupid canard again. :rolleyes:

I have to agree.

China is the perfect example of a government
that is firmly in control of it's people, their
behaviors, thoughts and lives and how
they have successfully stopped their
outbreak and stopped any at all

~~~ ahem ~~~
reoccurrence.
All of the credit, but none of the blame, right?
Complete and utter bullshit. The current US administration, sure, maybe.
It is easy to see why you believe you have shit for brains, with every misinformed post you make.
Oh, this stupid canard again. :rolleyes:
Prove that number that was floated, scientific proof. It can't be done. It's a floating meaningless number derived from guesses.
It's really an old advertising trick used to fool the rubes. "Our tires are 30% better this year." Great, better than what?
We're going to see how many rubes buy into this bull shit number.
February 26, 2020: President Trump falsely assures the public that the number of cases will go down.
“We’re going to be pretty soon at only five people,” President Trump falsely assures the public. “And we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time.” He adds, “when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”
Oops.
The truth is, if Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio hadn't packed their rest homes with CCP Virus patients and filled their subways and buses with infected homeless people spreading the virus throughout the city, maybe New York wouldn't have racked up one third of all CCP Virus deaths in the US.
Have cases been escalating?
Unfortunately he was holding the chart upside down.
Hal and Martin reunited again. Only the names change after each new banning. :)
Sorry, Ishypoo. Presidents own the crises they president through.
You guys made those rules. Obama owned his and Cheeto will own this one.
Cheeto will also own his current blunder of convincing a huge portion of society that masks and social distancing are for pussies. Many lives will be lost as a result of accelerated transmission due to him undermining his own CDC's recommendations. Delaying action was one huge blunder, and undermining the CDC is the next huge blunder.
The death rates per 100,000 residents will tell the story. Nations that are taking epidemiological scientist seriously are doing much better than the U.S. The leaders of those nations are focusing on public health and sustainable economic recovery, not on blaming WHO and China, as was reported in the OP's cited article.
It's easy to blame others, but it takes a real leader to accept reality as it is and take effective action. Trump's legacy is a mindless death cult, and the COVID-19 death rate in the U.S. will prove that.
Over 20 million US citizens died during President Obama's 8 years. That doesn't count tens of thousands of men, women and children killed by his bombs in Syria and the middle east.
Had President Obama pushed several easy precautions forward, made an effort to change laws, and added saving lives a part of his core agenda perhaps millions would not have perished. Certainly the number would have been reduced by thousands or hundreds of thousands. He is not the sole reason deaths were not reduced as the US Congress, state and local legislators and lawmakers - amongst others - can also share some blame.
