Is there a song that reminds you of an ex? How does that change the song? How do you feel when you hear it?

Yes. My wedding song. The last time it came on the radio while we were still together, he changed the station.

I hate the song, now.

There are many songs that remind me of many people including exes. It isn't a situation where the intent of the artist was to evoke a certain emotions based on the lyrics of the song, but instead where the song evokes the memory and emotions from a time it was playing. It doesn't change the song. It makes me feel nostalgic. I enjoy the vivid memories, they often make me smile, or make me laugh, or make me feel the excitement of that moment. Sometimes it makes me curious about where they are now if they are ones that I have lost touch with. I am at least social media friendly with most though, if not still actually in touch. I enjoy the vivid flashes and thoughts of people and places that I haven't thought about in a long time.

There is a great deal of music that reminds me of ex's. Often, it is because that person was the one to introduce me to a particular artist or genre. Jazz and blues, The Pogues, Bauhaus, Kate Bush, Tori Amos. That doesn't really "change" the song for me, because I was not familiar with it before that person. It will always have that association. In those cases, it either remains a good memory or has become benign with time.

Occasionally, there is a song, or an artist, that I already love when I meet someone and either find out they are a fan as well or come to strongly associate the music with them. That doesn't necessarily change the music itself, but, for a while after the breakup, I get irritated when I hear that song or artist. I am bothered that something that used to have only positive associations now initially sparks a thought of something painful.

My first ‘love’ made me a mix tape. Whenever I hear a song from it, I remember him. Not a good or bad reaction. More ‘awwww people made mix tapes then and it was so sweet’. Sappy.

Head Like a Hole by NIN. I still love that whole album, but I couldn’t listen to it for a while without feeling sick to my stomach. Now it doesn’t affect me anymore. It only took 20 years...🙄

Every Journey song. Can’t stand that shit.

Excuse me while I go put a screwdriver in my ear cause now I’ve got “Open Arms” playing in my head.

I'm one of those people who relates everyone I know to a song. Every time I hear a song, a certain person pops into my head. Once you have "your song", that's it. With my ex, it's the Eagles - Wasted Time". Not sure I need to explain that one.
