When I was in high school, it was nothing for me to ride my bike to the mall about 20-25 miles away, walk around, eat lunch, then ride back. So, maybe 50 or so miles.

Nope, excessive speed gets in to some pretty serious business depending on where you are. Anything from BIG penalties to jail time depending on the judges mood. And should you have an unfortunate incident it can be used as a sentencing enhancement to boost your sentence.
