Backup story, on its way...

Just got it submitted. We'll see how quickly the algorithm does its job.

Lol. So true. Between Halin, litfan and mine, we're trailing the pack on scores and views. And mine is definitely not your feel good romance. Maybe I should have submitted it under erotic horror? Mind you, if you could win on cubic volume of reader tears, I might place higher. I can laugh now, I wasn't when I wrote it.

I was torn with my story regarding the category as it is a romance but with a lot of humor to it.

Yeah, I never do well in contests - I use them to have fun, playing with the themes, writing strictly for fun for me.

I'm too interested in goofball humor stories or sweet (Hallmark Channel-ish) romances to be any kind of competitor with the normal Lit readers.

I still get plenty of new readers as well as a bunch of great stories to read so it's all good.

Have fun, happy writing and happy contesting one and all! :D

Mine has been submitted but hasn't posted yet. I was going for a light, fun story with a romantic outcome. We'll see how things work out. My expectations aren't high. It's summer and I just wanna have fun.

I look forward to reading it.

Good luck and definitely have fun!

Whoah. Backup is already posted.

So a nine-hour turnaround? And it was in Word, too.

You go, Laurel.

Well, it's up now along with a few more......

I'm almost in a mood to resume writing. I've a half-written tale, APPLES & ORANGES, about the marriage of two single parents with respectively 3 and 4 kids, mostly of fuckable age, all moving in together. It'll be fun to see how they spend the summer.

Sounds like the premise of this really popular Spanish telenovela I grew up watching named "Los Serranos". It's amazing what kind of stuff flies as normal tv in Europe.

It looks like the Romance readers aren't being very friendly toward the contest entries.

Romance category is the one I begun with and where I plan on never returning. It's a tough audience that I've given up trying to satisfy.

As for my story... I have a new issue. I realised this story is going to involve a lot of drinking. Has that ever been an issue for anyone? Too much liquor within a story? I'm not going to have them in a miserable condition for the act itself but I kind of can't keep myself from describing the local drinks they serve in Helsinki pubs.

Romance is a very tough category if they don't feel that your story fits their expectations.

Salmiakki? Do tell.

I had complaints about one of my stories that the characters were drinking so much coffee they must have been on a permanent caffeine high - and why didn't they drink tea sometimes?

I have one story that is over 4.80 with 1000+ votes that featured a lot of drinking and drug use. One reader commented that it was too much, but the voters didn't seem to care.

Way too early to brag but 4.57 stars with 7 votes

Nnoooooooo don't. Don't say it. The trolls.... the trolls will hear you ..... the bombs .... I can hear the bombs ..... lol

Sorry, too much caffeine. My sense of humor is warped....

Well, I made my one feeble attempt to promote my story in a thread about the source of inspiration I had. Sure enough, a troll immediately replied saying that no one's interested. Groan. Maybe it'll lead to some sympathy reads? :p

Where did you start that thread?

It's right here

And oh wow, Pierre Louys - I have a copy of Aphrodite in my book shelf! I don't quite know what to say but anyone that writes a story inspired by Pierre Louys is getting a five from me. I haven't read yours yet but now I'm all excited ....:heart::heart: - I wish I could claim some sort of divine inspiration like that but alas, mine was a lot more mundane...

Ask Laurel to move the thread out of the GB, and put it in the Poetry Discussion Forum, where you have a slightly better chance of finding people who might actually know who Louys was.

My contest entry has set a personal record that I didn't think I'd ever break. It's now over 6300 views without a comment. It's like I never really published a story.
