Five shots center mass...

Never bring a pair of scissors to a gun fight.

Why didn't the officer have/use a taser?

I'm surprised you are doing your patented shrieking "we need to ban scissors!!!!" bit.

Because I don't want to ban ALL scissors....

There is nothing wrong with a sensible pair of Fiskars.

Assault scissors however are just too dangerous for civilians.

Just look at them.

nobody needs that much cutting capability.

it's a fucking disgrace

shudda tasered or shot to the leg

too many cops running scared. most do a great job in difficult circumstances. this kind of incident and that kind of cop needs better training to avoid this kind of terrible outcome.

That's not how armed encounters work so that is not how they train. Movies are not real. No one aims for a limb, ever. Aiming for center of mass usually yields 30 % on target. Which is already too many stray bullets.

Gun vs edged weapon: it has been shown time and again that a person with an edged weapon can cover 7 yards faster than a guy with a gun can draw, aim and shoot. The training is shoot for the center of mass whenever someone gets within that radius. Unless you like getting stabbed.

he already had his weapon drawn and pointing at her, first at her legs and lower abdomen, then at her 'centre mass'. and he could have taken a few steps back to improve his safety level, or the other cop could have intervened even by pushing her over - except he had to leg it out of the way of harm from his trigger-happy colleague.

guns aside, why not use a taser? was he not equipped with one?

He was in his rights to shoot her.

Did he have to?

IMO no. I saw lots of alternatives. But I was not there with someone coming at me with scissors.

Here is the thing. Cops fuck up. They have a rough job.

But honestly...If every cop were black do anyone think the shooting rates would go down?

Because they wouldn't. Racism has nothing to do with it. Inexperienced, scared, cops; criminals who do not follow orders, are to root cause. Not racism.

The answer is, you work with what you have within your training, not what you wish you had. If he would have tased her and she died from cardiac arrest, You'd be screaming Why did he tase her?

Why rag on a guy who was in fear for his life? Another fucking hero earns a paid vacation and gets a pass on killing a citizen although in AZ. a Navajo life is probably not worth a whole lot. FTP

Their training is not to take out her arm or legs. He could have aimed lower as he was stepping backwards as the article stated, and not taken the shot til he was sure of his target. Who knows why no taser, it wasn't revealed.

What I noticed was his heart was ready to explode and he could barely breathe and he vomited after shooting this woman five times in the chest.

Im pro law enforcement but there seems to be a lack of training going on.

I've seen Joes go through basic, AIT, Ranger and thousands of hours of field training go to shit when hostile led was heading their way. (Rare but it happens)

You can train and train and hope. But at the end of the day no one knows how you will react when shit gets real.
