Ted Cruz — who voted against Hurricane Sandy aid — calls for federal relief following Texas floods

Texas Sen. and Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz — who voted against aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy — called for federal relief Wednesday in the wake of devastating floods and storms that have ravaged his home state.

The Tea Party darling said he supports “the federal government fulfilling its statutory obligations, and stepping in to respond to this natural disaster,” in regards to the barrage of storms that have left at least 21 people dead and 11 others missing.

Cruz, 44, voted against a federal disaster relief bill after Sandy ravaged the East Coast in October 2012 calling the measure “symptomatic of a larger problem in Washington – an addiction to spending money we do not have.”

That one has me scratching my head, although when I read up on it..

It seems that to actually challenge a presidential candidate's citizenship, it's a tough job to prove that you are harmed by it and therefore have legal standing, in order to get a federal judge to hear the case.

So there isn't much legal opinion on the subject.

Perhaps another candidate could prove that he was financially harmed by the presence of a foreign born candidate in the race, but probably few others could even pass the threshold test.


Then there's English common law usage of the word " natural", which seems to have been traditionally been interpreted in the broadest sense at the time The Constitution was written. As far as the English were concerned, one was a subject of the King for life, so much so that it caused the War of 1812.

Outside of a few conspiracy nutjobs, the blame being placed on President Bush was for the abysmal response of his appointee Michael"Heckuvajob" Brownie at FEMA. The ONE local FEMA representative in New Orleans sent out message after message telling FEMA that the situation was "beyond critical" and was ignored for days after Katrina made landfall.

President Bush stated that New Orleans had "dodged a bullet" despite being informed the night before that levees had broken in New Orleans and that the city was flooding.

Hundreds of firefighters from other cities who volunteered to help in the response were rerouted to Atlanta, where they sat through two days of presentations on sexual harassment and the history of FEMA before being sent to New Orleans.

The complete failure of the response to New Orleans is strange, considering that FEMA had been making preparations for just such an event for 3 years before Katrina, even going so far as to stage "Hurricane Pam" drill in 2004 simulating a storm in which New Orleans was almost completely devastated.
