The Official Author's Hangout 2014 Summer Lovin' Contest Support Thread

My entry went up a few hours ago. It didn't take long to get one-bombed (6th vote). C'est la vie.

This is why I'm constantly offering my editing services to authors of stories I read that have spelling/grammar problems & the like, but will never submit a whole story to a public site like this one...

People who do so then often grip about votes/comments they get, appearing to not realize the commenters &/or voters (myself included) have a right to our opinion, & also refusing to admit that we are more-often right about our opinions than those same authors appear willing to believe/admit.

And people who comment or vote (you included) low on stories for spelling/grammar mistakes should remember, this is a free amateur site and you get what you pay for. If you want the fully edited edition, then you can pay full price for it when it goes on sale.

You're right, everyone has their opinion and I have posted many times here that I think its sad no one thinks there is such a thing as a deserved one bomb.

But when someone like yourself comes out with that attitude my response is the same as it is to some of the people who leave the "you fucking suck, stop writing" comments.

Why don't you show us how its done? Put a story up there and wow us with how talented you are.

I mean it, I anxiously await your attempt.

And if your stories read like your posts we should be in for a real treat:rolleyes:

I have to tell you. Some of my favorite authors are allergic to commas. Enjoy the story. Overlook the errors. (I'm a language teacher. If I can do it, you can too.)

I don't think rippity was speaking of my story per se, just used as a soapbox. My story was edited (once under time constraint) but will still have errors as ANY story does. It couldn't be awful-deserves-one-vote bad. After 14 edits, hubby found an error in my novel last week so stories are never pure. I've used many proofreaders; I'd never use one that made so many mistakes in one post.

On top of all that, I don't care what his opinion is or what his vote was (if he voted on mine), none of that changes me or my writing. That was my original reaction. Such is life.

From a comment, I've learned Mr. Anymouse doesn't like a woman in control or with her own fetishes. He was disgusted that the woman butt-fucked a man (ETA) with a strap-on, even though it was her husband and he liked it. ;)

To TxRad: I pay nothing for your stories, & I simultaneously realize & admit that. However, it will never go on sale, as any professional publisher or editor that reads many of the stories posted here would do so, having also not yet paid anything) & still perhaps ask for a refund.

Meaning: I bought a paperback book yesterday for $8.00 (or thereabouts). I have yet to turn a single page. Yet I simultaneously know that I will be more-likely to get my money's worth out of it than I do when I read the majority of free stories on this site.

To lovecraft: I see nothing wrong with the majority (not all, but most) of my posts as far as spelling/punctuation/grammar/etc. go. Regardless, I read many threads long before I posted in any of them, & many posters here have even made it a point to point-out how lax most posters are on these boards.

As for my writing, I don't post stories here for two main reasons. The first is I admit I doubt I'd be any good at that sort of writing if left to create-&-write a whole story myself (why I have done most of my writing on CHYOO/CHYOA). That is not to say I'm a bad writer; In the non-erotic fiction area, I've been offered publishing contracts by many companies across the States, & completed a musical-comedy (written by only myself) that I hope to see hit local stages before the end of the decade, after which I will be unseating Sondheim, Webber, & the like as the King of the theatrical musical.
The second reason is... Well, honestly the same; I don't feel I'd be very good at it. That is why (unlike so many others it seems) I have chosen to not even attempt to have any stories posted here, whereas it seems many others prove their own ideas/suspicions their work would be of low quality, & yet (most-likely due to the cost-less reason TxRad gave) feel little-if-any hesitation/shame when posting it for others to read.

Just being published on a paperback doesn't make a story great. It's idiocy to expect more pleasure from a thing that has been paid for than a thing that hasn't been paid.

There are quality works on this website that deserve to get published, but either the author doesn't believe that they have the talent or they don't want to.

Nobody cares about the spelling/grammar unless it's totally drivel, unless of course, they're nitpicking arseholes.

I'll look the other way and pretend not to hear it. I don't understand the point of that sanctimonious BS.

People learn when they practise. Not everyone is born a Shakespeare.

With your style of writing, I really doubt your credentials. I really do. I gave up trying to decipher that hum-haw of yours.

Ah yes, you don't know much about publishing. Publishers have their own editors and most like the raw writing before someone else gets their dirty paws on it. I know this for a fact since I ended up with my first three book deal from a short story in Non-erotic, right here on Lit.

For other folks information, check out rippity's posting history. Other than the posts here and one or two others, it's all GB. Explains a lot, don't ya think.

I couldn't even figure out what that quote you gave from Rip was trying to convey, TxRad.

You don't know what anyone other than yourself likes.

Also, getting a story here (which is simply an unproven claim, same as if I claimed to be Clooney), means as much as the stories posted on the site are worth.

Also, I've posted under many different names; This is simply the one I use when trying to keep in contact with those of the lower abilities & IQs.

As for TSB, I don't know about "soul", but your response to me proved (beyond the fact you don't know how/when to Mind Your Own Business) that you're full of $**t.

Quite an excuse you have there for your shitty writing. As for the [airquote] insult [/airquote] I have to contact Laurel about allowing 12 year olds into this website still wearing diapers.

You prove your IQ with your posts, time and again.

No; Only that I know the rules of writing (unlike you & many who post stories here).

One of the biggies: Know your audience... Or in the case of this place, know how little your audience actually knows.

As for RR, your Username is (more alliteration?) a reversal of realism, as the reality is you're a reject.

You really are a 12 year old, aren't you? Somebody get him a pacifier! :D

I won't waste my breath on a cry baby anymore. So long, 12 year old!

did someone mention rules?

*snort* :D

...anyway, i hope to have something up (keep it clean) before the deadline.

...now, where are those cougars?
