Welcome to:
The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2024 Contest Support Thread

Today, June 20 2024, is the first day of SUMMER!!! A weekend at the beach, a campsite in the forest, a hike along the Appalachian Trail, cheap seats at the ball game, a bucket of beer and a back yard full of friends, these are all signs of summer and I'm sure you have more. While our friends in Oz are scraping frost off the windshield and thawing out the drop bears, up north we're tossing hotdogs on the grill. Either way nothing says summer like a hot keyboard and an overworked imagination!

Let's go!

Summer Lovin' (summertime)
Themes: warm weather, summer activities, bikinis, etc.
Submissions start on (or before): August 16
Last Submission: September 6
at 11:59 EDT

Winners announced: September 13

The rules:

- All submissions must be stand-alone stories created for this contest theme
. We will not accept individual chapters of a larger work submitted separately. If you have a multi-chaptered contest-themed submission, please submit all chapters together as one story submission. (It is perfectly fine to continue your contest story in another tale, either for the monthly contests or another special contest.)

- We will allow authors who have won in our monthly contests within the last 6 months to win in this special contest However, if you have won a prize in one of the last two special contests, you are not eligible to win in this one.

- A story has only to accrue 25 votes to be eligible, rather than the 50 required for the monthly contest.

- Submissions must have a Summer Lovin' theme: hot weather, beaches, barbecues, vacations, etc. Be creative! Please don't just submit a normal story that takes place in a pool. That would not be in the spirit of the contest, and readers (aka voters) will likely punish you for your trickiness.

- Please ensure you have "SUMMER LOVIN 2024" in the Notes to Admin field and use it as a tag. We recommend that you copy and paste to avoid typos. If it is not in the NOTES field – or if it's typoed - we cannot easily find your story and it may not be approved in a timely manner to be entered into the contest!!

This thread is to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE authors to enter stories in the 2024 Summer Lovin' Contest. Bring out the squirt guns, the inflatable mattresses, and the sunscreen, and open yourself to some sizzling summer Fun Times!

Just remember, it has to be summer related - not necessarily beach related.

As Ogg always told us, there is an advantage to entering stories in one of Literotica's themed contests. Apart from the possibility of winning, your story gets far more exposure and attention than it would typically receive.

Wait for Laurel's notice of the start of the contest as a sticky at the top of the Authors' Hangout before submitting and follow the instructions in that thread.

Good luck and have fun!

Mine's marinating.

I had the title and the basic premise, it just needed a hook. I think I found one.

I've also got one that's been sitting on the back burner for a while. See how it goes, I suppose.

I had a story going for the holiday contest that I ended up abandoning. It might actually work better here.

Sometimes, you're trying to make something happen one way when it wants to happen another way.

Between the Nude Day and a series I published called Summer Inside His Sister, I’m probably out of ideas for this one, sadly.

My #1 story is going to be a foray into LW - my first attempt at the darkside.
Some preemptive advice: make deleting comments into a source of joy. You're sending sewage back down the drainpipe from whence it came.

I just finished mine on Tuesday, having gotten the inkling of an idea for it on Sunday. That's fast.

I'm happy with it, too.

I'm into a final edit on mine. Started last year but ended up much longer that I imagined at around 54k words. Will be going up for this year's contest. Just hoping I haven't got too carried away.

Nude tropical island scuba diving and interracial beach sex for this one...as is my regular vibe, nothing too complicated...😉

“I had written 2 colleagues engaging in workplace BDSM, 750 words in Erotic Couplings, four pages of action packed April's fools story, a first time blowjob full of teen romance, and a whole six pages full of screamers, laughters, and nude men running around...
Not that I needed all that for becoming a Literotica author, but once you get locked into a serious probing of the audience, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the Incest/Taboo category. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of I/T fantasies. And I knew I'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon. Probably at the next challenge.”

I think the same thing about LW fantasies, but these are all erotic fairy tales so have fun. Take it as a challenge to write us a story that's not depraved and irresponsible. I am delving into the LW category for the first time and hopefully you'll find that my story is not depraved and irresponsible.

Damn, I've opted to be a total Contest & Challenge whore this year, and it's a bit exhausting...I feel like I'm in a reverse gang bang! 🤕
I tried to hit them all last year, holy crap! It's a lot of work. The hardest part is trying to come up with an idea for something you care nothing about (Nude day, Halloween) so I chose to save my energy for things I care about (750 words, Summer Lovin, Winter Holidays, and GEEK PRIDE!!!)

I used to do that, but it's just not worth it if it's not enjoyable. The first rule of Lit: if you're not having fun, do something different.

I enter challenges that strike my fancy and ignore those that don't. Same with contests.

I tried to do that and it was going well between On the Job and Nude Day, but I finally had to wave the white flag at the Spillane event. My every idea there is basically for a full-length novel, and there is no way I'm gonna squeeze it in while also writing something for the summer contest.

Pick and choose, and most importantly have fun!

I'm definitely enjoying it! I like challenging myself for some reason, and this has been fun... sometimes I just wish there was a *little* bit more time between challenges and contests. My stories are short-ish and very simple, so I've been doing okay... don't worry, I'm definitely having fun! 🙏

Here's what you do:

Use the long doldrum period between Holidays and Valentines and write your Summer Lovin' story in December/January. That way, you're not wasting the winter and the short refractory period between Nude Day and Summer Lovin' isn't an issue.

It also frees up June/July. See, right now I'm writing my Halloween story. It's all about time management!

And, again, if the muse keeps her damn mouth shut and fails to give you a plot for any of these stories? It's fine to stay out of them and come around next year. Or? Just sit on homeless stories that you wanted to write. I've got an SF piece for the Xanadu Ring anthology that's waited patiently for about eight months now; there was another event, suggested a couple years ago by @ChloeTzang involving tales set in the Far East during the 1910-1940 era, that I wrote an excellent story for. It's waiting patiently, too.

Maybe someday she'll kick off the event, and I'm already ready for it.
