Will Ukraine situation lead to World War III?

It IS different, if we look at how they got the land, and whether they may have a legit claim to it. I think Israel has a stronger foot to stand on, if not totally solid.
Not so different from the "relocation" of Germany and Poland. But the Russians didn't make the mistake of letting the people who had lived there for hundreds of years stay there. They expelled or killed them. They wanted sanitized ground.

But in the sense of "the world's" reaction, it's pretty much the same. Vocal criticism, and tentative diplomatic attempts at negotiation. Possibly sanctions from some directions. But otherwise fuck all.
Spot on.

So calling Jews "kikes" is okay with you?

That's not anti-Semitism?

Nope, never ever okay. And keep holding that down every time you see you and yours being slimed.

But, me and Becky, we got our own little dance going on between us, don't we? :)

It's handled a bit differently in the real world.

She rolls her eyes at you, you roll back, and suddenly this guy has no more business contacts.

It's subtle, but there's no stopping it.

All true except I don't think we're making any money on it, at least not until Obama get's smart and unleashes our energy sector to compete against the Russians. I was speaking hypothetically about a military engagement. Obama isn't about the battlefield, in fact I think he's in the process of degrading our military, to make sure it doesn't represent a credible force to either the Chinese or the Russians, save a nuclear threat against the nation's annihilation. Obama like all leftists, think our military and American strength are the biggest problems in the world.
"WE?"

Here is why these maroons keep tripping you up.

Russia and the US have an understanding. This has been ordained. And ranting and railing on the GB won't change anything in the slightest.

If you are really worried about totalitarianism, look to your own country.

Are you worried about "isolationism"?

The young people of today have you on ignore.

It's not that they're isolationists, it's just that they don't care.

And why should they?

We say, "Okay, nothing's free now, fly away and do stuff..."

What an incentive.

Do you think these kids will give their lives for France?

It's a different generation.

Goodness me. A wee while ago, you were seeking to kill this thread. But you've moved the goalposts again, because you were uncomfortable about being exposed as a fraud.

You're perfectly happy casually jousting with playful US posters.

And completely out of your depth when dealing with serious discussion.

I've long thought there is going to be another World War type conflict. I don't mean Apocalypse where the world is uninhabitable but something that kills off a 1-3 billion people.

I think all these proxy wars n such is nothing more than global forces (they can be multi national corps or governments) staking out claims. This is mine..you can have that... let's divide that continent up this way....we agree on this... etc.

It's a risky thing to do, which is probably why those entities capable of doing it do so. At some point you can only have and spend so much money but power ...that appetite never gets quenched.

One bumbling fool can cause it to blow up, which would also explain the slow progression of America's social, economic and especially political decline over the last 30 yrs. The rise of China to counterbalance the USA in response to the Soviet Unions collapse as a counter weight.

Too many Rogue (independent) players in the game, so WW3 is never more than a step or two away .

You know I forgot is this thread about Ukraine , GDP or WW3? LOL

Yet again...

you show yourself as a pathetically self-obsessed man.

Precisely how many stories (the original raison d'etre of Literotica) have you posted in your commanding and impressive presence on this site?

And how many readers have you won over to your view by reasoned argument?

I'll pass on digging holes. That's your area, not mine.

You've given up on challenging me with rational discussion, because you appear incapable of it.

Putin Offers to Meet Obama as East Ukraine Battles Rage
By Henry Meyer, Volodymyr Verbyany and Daria Marchak
June 4, 2014

President Vladimir Putin offered the first face-to-face talks with Barack Obama since pro-Russian separatists unleashed an insurgency that’s claimed almost 200 lives in Ukraine.

The Russian leader, who rejected accusations his military is present in Ukraine, said he’s ready to meet Obama this week in France during 70th-anniversary commemorations of the allied landings in the north of the country in World War II. Meanwhile, Obama met Ukrainian President-elect Petro Poroshenko in Warsaw, where he pledged to step up non-lethal military aid.

“That’s his choice -- I’m ready for dialogue,” Putin said, according to an excerpt of an interview with French radio Europe 1 and the TF1 television channel posted today on Europe 1’s website. “I hope this isn’t a new phase of the Cold War.”

Gazprom to Build Gas Link to Austria Bypassing Ukraine With OMV
By Elena Mazneva and Jonathan Tirone
June 24, 2014

OAO Gazprom, Russia’s biggest company, moved forward on building a natural gas pipeline to the European Union to cut transit dependence on Ukraine, the same day Russian President Vladimir Putin asked lawmakers to revoke a right to use force in the smaller country.

Gazprom and OMV AG agreed today to create a joint venture to build and operate the 50-kilometer (30-mile) section of the South Stream pipeline in Austria at a signing ceremony in Vienna. They approved a final investment decision for the link, with capacity to carry as much as 32 billion cubic meters of gas a year, Gazprom said in a statement. That is about 20 percent of Russian exports to Europe.

Russia has pushed for South Stream after years of disputes with Ukraine, which carries half of Gazprom’s Europe-bound gas through its pipelines. Russia cut deliveries to Ukraine this month over debts as tension between the former Soviet allies mounted. Pricing rows disrupted EU flows during cold weather in 2006 and 2009.

The Austrian link “isn’t very long, but that doesn’t diminish its importance because it is the endpoint of South Stream,” Gazprom Chief Executive Officer Alexey Miller told reporters in Vienna. Today’s agreement will strengthen the role of Baumgarten, the gas hub where the pipeline will terminate, in central and eastern Europe, he said.

Dwindling Supply

The accord comes two days before European Union leaders meet in Belgium to discuss energy security strategy for the 28-nation bloc and measures to avert gas-supply disruptions in the 2014-2015 winter. The European Commission has questioned how Gazprom and its partners will use the link, while Ukraine has said Russia is using gas as a political tool.

Putin made his request to parliament today before his trip to Vienna to help stabilize the situation in eastern Ukraine, Dmitry Peskov, his spokesman, said by phone.

OMV head Gerhard Roiss said the deal will increase Europe’s security of gas supply and will comply with EU legislation, which seeks to increase competition in the market.

“Europe needs Russian gas and it will need more Russian gas as its own supply dwindles,” Roiss said at a news briefing.

South Stream, which may cost about 16 billion euros ($22 billion), will send as much as 63 billion cubic meters of gas to the EU annually. The pipeline will run 900 kilometers under the Black Sea to the Balkans, where it was planned to split into northern and southern routes, finishing in Austria and Italy.

The Austrian link is set to start operating from the end of 2016, under the 50-50 joint venture with OMV, Gazprom said in its statement. Miller said commercial deliveries will begin in 2017 and reach project capacity within 12 months. The agreement is legally binding, he said.

Italy, Austria

Gazprom shelved plans to bring the pipeline to Austria in 2011, favoring partner Eni SpA’s home country Italy.

The Russian company signed an accord with OMV on the Austrian link in April of this year. Since then, Gazprom has considered dropping the Italian route. The company will decide about building both routes or just one by July, Leonid Chugunov, Gazprom’s project management department head, said in May. The company’s press service declined to comment on the matter today.

South Stream will be built regardless of the questions it faces in Europe, according to Miller...
