Oh, What Fun (and, Let's Get FAWCking)

Honestly the picture is the best idea, followed closely by all stories have the same location. See I'm not egotistical, much.

I'd prefer not doing a time period, I do that plenty with my western and now the steampunk. Have a sort of idea to do a flapper girl in the roaring twenties. Don't think an 80's setting would be good, many around weren't alive or don't remember the 80's so those of who were would lambast the younguns. :D

Course having said that medieval has a certain appeal. Course many wouldn't try very hard to actually do it in the period and well I would. Not really fair for everyone. Dangit now I am goign to have to go look up the time period and think up a story.

I am so blaming you Slyc. :p

Then you can count me in. If you're tabulating votes, I like the LW suggestion or the picture challenge. The same opening line, not so much.

Some other ideas:

A period (like the 80s, or the 40s, Victorian era, or maybe go all medieval on our asses.

Technology

Create a cast of 12-20 characters, and randomly assign 2-4 of them per author.

Sorry I missed your post when I posted mine. Didn't mean to gloss over you. ;)

A time period story would be pretty cool, too. I also like the idea of a cast of characters from which everyone has a few randomly assigned. That would have some of the same feel of FAWC, though. Not sure if that would be good or bad.

NaNo begins Nov. 1. Some of us will be involved with that and completing two stories could be difficult. Incorporating FAWC 3 into NaNo is a possibility if we know the parameters early enough.

I should clarify. I meant after the Halloween contest, which ends October 22nd. I should have been more clear.

If you're surveying opinons on ideas presented so far:

- I think a single category is too limiting (not interested in Celebrity or LW at all).
- Like the picture idea (prefer one but ok with more).
- Like the idea of a common starting or ending sentence or both.

Sorry but haven't any ideas of my own to offer as yet.

Blame me all you want. :p

There seems to be a pretty good reaction to the picture idea. if we go with that, it wouldn't be the same picture as was posted (though it is a good one). Better to spring it on everyone when the challenge officially begins.

Although, unless we find someone who's not going to be part of the challenge to pick the picture, I might have to bow out, just for fairness. I'd hate to do that, though.

You could ask for a nonplaying volunteer.

(or you could continue saying it's not that photo but make it that photo. :))

I give assignments like this once in a while, but I've never participated on the writing end. I'm excited!

Pictures! I love writing to pictures. Most of my stories come from a single picture.

Since I haven't participated in the first contests, I'll volunteer to do the pictures for you. All i need is an idea of what sort of pictures you will need and how many.

Ooh, NaNo. I forgot about that. I definitely won't be able to do a story while I'm also doing NaNo, so, if it is a picture, can we get the picture on Oct. 23? So then possibly maybe I could write a story by Nov. 1st?

Why, one that goes with a fabulous story I've already written, of course. :D

I don't even have a vault, never mind already-written stories to go in it. except for the really bad ones at the bottom of my pajama drawer.

Intrigued... why do the 'really bad ones' end up in your pajama drawer?

And just what drawer do the 'really good ones' go in?:D

Because that's the only one with room. ;)

I'll let you know when it happens.

Intrigued . . . why bother with a pajama drawer in the first place?

Because sometimes it's nice to have something pretty for the fella to peel off me.... ;) Or because I want something snuggly for the nights I just don't care.

I like the picture idea. :)

Ah. :)

Did you know there are writing exercises with pictures here?

Now why would you think I could be that devious?

Unless I miss my guess about NaNo, wouldn't you be able to continue a story you wrote for this challenge and make it part of your final NaNo project?

I will definitely keep that in mind, Tx. ;)

Just a little further to the picture idea, to include an element or elements of previous fawc's. Perhaps have multiple pictures containing a central element albeit slightly different in context that you could assign or let the writers choose from... I have a really good idea for this if you like it but rather than post that one I suggest this to explain my idea....

Old Boots

I am probably more keen on the one picture idea in my last post but this came to me and I thought i would put it out there. :)

I love this idea, but I pray you don't start for at least two weeks. I have an insane backlog, and three Halloween stories I'm trying to get out, one of which has reached Novella length.

AHEM! (tapping foot) I'm still waiting for the next installment. Don't make me drive over there and pry it from your hands. By the way, when is our next road trip? Next Wednesday?

I'll keep my eye on the contest - but love the idea of working from a common thematic photo.

I love this idea, too. I believe it was mentioned in the first FAWC.

I swear I'm working on it. Really. Up to 40K words, but I think I'm nearing the end. After your comments, PatientLee's, and the writing groups, I did some major edits on the first half, but it's a lot stronger for it. I have a feeling if I don't finish it soon, I'm going to really catch hell.

I'll be going to the Writer's Group tomorrow, to allow them to tear it up some more. I'll give you a call.

I took down the two bigger photo's i think people got the gist.

I didn't follow teh first Fawc, apologies Mistress_Lynn.

Been rereading Hunger Games. I wish there was a way we could use the whole cornucopia idea in a Fawc.

A huge selection of things like categories, pictures, themes, specific types of people... items like fancy cars, posh hotel room maybe.

The fun would be in the grabbing. Who would get to what first ? it would have to be one use only items. So if someone else got the picture of a Bunny with a pancake on it's head no one else could use it.

But how to do the Grab? I mean a mad dash in, grabbing up a sword and fighting it out could be fun but it would very quickly cut down on the number of stories.

:D

I haven't seen or read Hunger Games. Don't see that I would need to to write erotica.

You don't, of course, but MSTarot is referencing a specific item in the books. At the titular games, which are a televised, fight-to-the-death competition, the government provides what is called a cornucopia. It is filled with items that the contestants would find useful -- food, weapons, whatever. It's first-come, first-served, and often in the books, a large chunk of contestants are killed right off as they try to get in and out of it.

I believe MST is saying that it would be neat if there was a virtual cornucopia that any FAWCkers could visit and grab -- on a first-come, first-served basis -- any ideas for a story that are in there. That would be neat.

And I have to say that with as fast as parodies show up these days on the internet, I'm amazed I haven't seen a "sexual hunger games." I'm sure it's out there, I just missed it.
