By 'white lies', I'm assuming you are referring to things like if someone asks if I think their outfit is nice, stuff like that.
And my answer would be (if I didn't like it) - no, personally it is not to my taste, but if you like it then that's all that matters, right?!

Why does everyone think being truthful is such an alien concept?
The only reason I can think of, is that pretty much everyone here lies to a certain extent.

In my r/l circle, I am known as GoTo Froggy (my nic), because everyone knows I won't fuck about with my answers if they ask something.
Conversely, I never ask people those silly questions that they feel obliged to give a 'nice' answer to, because I understand that not many are comfortable with being so honest.

But when he became an Aussie citizen, I changed his nic to 'De-Kaffir-nated'
Everyone calls him 'decaf' now.

i've known at least two compulsive liars in my life. both were bearable once you realized they were harmless. it still got annoying at times, but whatever.
This reminds me of the 5 years I spent in Tibet studying with the Salami Lama before we had to flee. The Dalai had a huge Pinnochio nose if you know what I'm saying. I could tell you stories but no time, meeting with Woodward and Bernstein to catch up on old times.
