Totally Stupid Story Rejection

It's just a worn out and boring topic. Just don't do it on Lit. They don't want it, they don't desire it, they don't see a need for it, so don't do it. Period. If folks want to write under the age of 18 sex, than start their own story site and post their work there.

Me either. I posted one Arts Ardane story there, because I didn't want to artificially age Danica for a first time story, but 16 is as low as I'll go :p

There is no logical reason. Under age sex is allowed in main stream fiction and movies. The rule here is simply it is their rule. It's their home field they make house rules. Abide, leave, or manipulate them, that's the options.

Under 18 is forbidden in any sexual term and more often than not, even if the situation is not sexual an under age reference can get you the boot. If there was truly nothing wrong and you re submit with a note they will usually let it go.

I personally would only really find it restricting in the first time category as it's just dumb to think everyone was 18 there first time. But whatever.

hm... I actually was eighteen my first time (yup... all 3 of those months ago...) So I can't say anything

Well I was thirteen so we average out to about 15 1/2 so there you go.

My wife was 19 her first time (she claims) damn goody goody.

You really aren't helping your argument much. You say:
...I choose to think that I'm not ranting...
Which is an arbitrary act, but then you complain about...
...an opinion about a sad, unrealistic arbitrary position that seems cast in concrete... One day, maybe people will open their eyes and exercise some reason and common sense.
You kinda shoot yourself in the foot.

Even ignoring that, the argument you present is not a valid comparison. If a film studio produces something that goes too far, censors reject it, and the film studio can't use their film, at least, not without removing the offending portions. It costs them money to make the changes, and delays getting the product to the paying public. Don't forget that the censors are paid for the trouble of fielding a stream of submissions.

The owners of this site are not paid, at least, not by you and me. I have no doubt that, even with things as black & white as they have made it, they still get a steady stream of complaints just like yours. Try to imagine what it would be like for them if they blurred the lines just a little. Soon, people would be bickering about how "He got his submission accepted and I think he went way further than I did," and others complaining, "I dipped just a little deeper but it was artistically done, and..." and so on it would go.

See, everyone has their opinions. What makes you think your opinion is more valid than that of the owners? You think they are too restrictive. No doubt there are people in the world who feel this site should not exist, period!

How can we decide whose opinion should be valid here? Whose opinion should hold sway? Well, I think if we...
exercise some reason and common sense
...the only answer that makes any sense is that the people who own the site get to choose.

To carry the argument beyond this logical conclusion is to basically say to the world at large, "When I want your opinion, I'll give it to you." Not exactly the kind of statement to endear those interested in working against an "arbitrary position" (ibid). One must conclude that it is but your frustration at being thwarted that has inspired your protest, and that shortly you will see the error of your thoughts.

Or not. I'm not really concerned either way; just passing time till I have to be somewhere ;)

I was 20. It was the funniest experience ever. lol Woke up the following morning and was starving so we went out for breakfast, and I ordered more food than was on the buffet that my fiance (now husband) ordered. He only had to make one trip to the buffet, the rest of his "trips" were just off my plates. I think I had an egg, some toast and a sausage link, but had ordered everything under the sun because of my appetite. :D

well see, you were clever and as soon as you mentioned 16 mentioned 18 in the same line shopwing it was the past. Nice job.

I have gotten around it a bit by stating they were 18 then later saying "last year" and going into a sex scene now the reader if they pay attention knows they were younger than 18 but it is not being stated.

that will still get you rejected.

To whom does one address oneself around here to call those who decide which stories to post 'stupid assholes', which they are? Rejected a Christmas story of mine because it had a child in it. It was a soft romance with no----I repeat NO under age sex!

When I post this, I will shake the dust off my feat and this site to the darkness of literary criticism ineptness where it deserves to be!

OOOO! Laurel's gonna get you for that!

I don't get it. Ranting (in the best sense of the term), about a clear Rule?.

I don't know how stories are read before publishing, but if it is an automated process, there's gonna be a little hick-up from time to time. I guess the trick is to ask nicely.

It rather reminds me of a sign we have in the UK over many doors opened for the public:

"The management reserves the right to refuse admission"

So regardless of Federal or State laws, the owners' word is Law.

You can put a note in and mention you have an under 18 age mentioned but no sex and this is why you are doing it. I had a couple go through like that.

I think people who say never touch it at all are wrong. If you feel it is important to the story try it. Not sex of course , but using a character at under 18

I don't know that that is even necessary. I have one series of stories in particular, about Donna and Kevin. He has two very young children from an earlier marriage, and both of them are important to the stories. I have mentioned their ages several times.

In the story where she moves into his apartment, all four characters spend the night in bed together, but it is strictly a family thing, and not at all sexy. There was no problem in getting that posted.

I often refer to people as teenagers but, before I do that, I make sure I say they are 18 or 19.

It never hurts to mention in the "notes" section whenever you have any characters in a story who are underage, even if they aren't within a light year of any sexual activity. In the speed read to approve a story, it's easy enough for Laurel to see an age, "teen" or some other trigger word and bounce it back to you.

Putting the note in there ensures that she'll look for context for those triggers instead of just dropping the rejection hammer on you and moving on to the next of the 60+ stories she needs to approve daily.
