Was my story rejected because it was too extreme?

There's a challenge that needs creative solutions.
The only challenge is either to just drop this 'rule' or strictly and consistently enforce it.

I don't care for NC or MC stories, but their valid kinks and have at it, but just own what they are and stop justifying when there is no reason to. These are fictional stories, not what people would do in real life (hopefully) so admit the kink and have fun, stop writing rape stories and trying to say that's not what they are.

I write incest stories, know why? Because I enjoy them as a fantasy kink. How hard is that to say?

Most of the contributions to this thread seem to assume that Laurel reads the stories, which would be super-human feat. You may only have to change a few words to get past the algorithms while keeping the same meanings.

I think I've read somewhere that Laurel doesn't use any algorithms. As far as I know, she skims the stories manually, and she is the only one doing that. So, it takes at least a few days to publish the stories.

My God! I think I finally figured it out after about two months. My rejection had nothing to do with the nature of the content I was writing. It was rejected because I wrote at the end of the story that I wouldn’t write more parts if no one commented under it.

I wrote the following: (If you want this to continue, I need to see comments. At least 30. No new chapters until then. Please comment! I beg you!)

This was the feedback I received at that time.

I thought the bold part was the moderator telling me that I couldn’t expect feedback on why they didn’t accept the story. I assumed I had just gotten a generic reply. But today, I reread it and even ran it through ChatGPT to be sure, and it turns out the real reason for my rejection was that I was forcing readers to comment on my story.

AHHHH! I thought my story was rejected because it was too dark. So I made a U-turn on all the important bits, and the whole story went in a completely different direction. I’ve now written about 40,000 words, only to realize the truth far too late.

I can only blame myself—a good story ruined because I didn’t read the feedback carefully

Correct.

Readers comment because a story is worth commenting on, not because the author craves comments. Making thirty comments a condition for continuing? That's hubris, right there.

If I read that at the beginning of a story, I'd have back clicked right there. If I got through the chapter, then read that comment, you'd have got a comment, for sure: "Who the fuck do you think you are, holding a story hostage to comments? Score = 1."

You are right! I was just trying to be funny. It was stupid of me to add a line like that.
