It must be Christmas season or something. I submitted my last story last Sunday afternoon. I thought sure it would post last, (thursday) night, but no luck...Damn. Now it will post tonight, (Friday) I suppose, for Saturday the worst day of the week for readership. Boo-Hoo!

I submitted one on Monday and it posted today (Friday)--one day later than usual.

I think that sweeping and adding up the Winter Holidays contest voting set submissions back a bit.

Same here. I attributed it to the Winter Contest since they ran late with that.

Actually at this time of year, Saturday is not a bad day for a story to come out.

Just for hetero stories, though! It's all those dudes sitting on their asses outside of changing rooms who decide to read some pron while they wait for wifie to try on 14 different outfits! :D

Based on past history...

When ever I have a story released on a week-end, it gets about half of the readership it gets during the week.
I thought sure, if I submitted it Sunday, it would post by Wed. or Thurs. night.

Have to disagree -- heartily.

Anything that comes out after the Thursday/Friday midnight transition has had a MAJOR drop in readership for me. Someone else said "half" and that sounds about right.

Never saw any evidence of time of year making a difference either.

Anything that posts on Saturday or Sunday, I write off as doomed, and I haven't been proved wrong yet.

I agree. I usually submit on Tuesdays (then post my story;)) in hopes that with the normal 3 day period I get Friday which seems to be a good day. Sometimes it has taken 4 and I get Saturday which is so so, I got Sunday once and it sucked.

Really? I submitted mine on Monday, too, and it's still pending--awaiting approval.

So much for trying to avoid a Sunday post date.

I submitted one on Tuesday by GMT.

It is still pending although the number of views keeps climbing.

Really? I submitted the story about two weeks ago, then pulled it to work more on it. The "views" reached 32 during that brief time.

I submitted the story again on Monday, and the "views" haven't ticked up at all over the past six days. Hmmm. I thought they'd fixed the glitch, but now I'm curious what's going on.

ETA: It apparently posts tomorrow. Sigh. Damn you, weekend posting date.

The views you see during "pending"

is a computer glitch. You're story is NOT being viewed until it actually posts.
It is just as I feared. It is almost noon on Saturday, my story has been up for several hours and has only been viewed by 2300 people so far.
The last story I submitted posted on a Thurs. and had over 9,000 viewers by this time.
Week-ends are not good.

My last few only went up to 32 glitch views. That's better than the 64 average and 128 spikes we had a while back, so something must be getting sorted. Manu has at least found some part of the issue.

I wonder if it isn't some sort of harvester bot that's taking advantage of the way the stories are stored in the database to anticipate upcoming submissions and continually access them until they appear to be stolen for some lame ad and malware infested fly-by-night site. The decrease in "glitch" views could be the site banning the offending IPs as they appear.

I've seen some similar activity on my own website of late. Frikkin' Russian Federation spammers and thieves

Some of us have to wait a day or three before we hit 2300 views. Now, of course it often depends on categories, but the latest chapter of my (romance) story has been up since yesterday and is a little over 2800 views. So 2300 views in less than half that time is good.

Can't really go by multi-chapter stories posting frequently. You have a built-in base checking daily.

Post a one-shot or a chapter 1 on Sunday and see what happens.

on a related note...

Have there been some major sweeps this past week? My scores were up and down all week, while votes evaporated. Anyone else have a similar experience?

the trick is to get near to the top of the new stories portal. ;)

Contest sweeps always hit stories all across the board as they remove residual votes from problem voters identified in the contest votes.

Well, damn. My story isn't going up tomorrow--it went up late this morning.

Not sure which is worse: Sunday, or a middle-of-the-day Saturday posting?

And yeah, 2300 views? Hahaha! I'll count myself lucky with getting half of that by the end of the week. (And yes, nakd, I know it's a glitch; that's why I wrote "views" and not views).

OK. Enough griping. Time to make Nigella's sticky gingerbread. :)

I can't decide if I think it's strange or not that it follows the 2-raised-to-the-n sequence.

What a surprise!

My recent submission has been one-bombed several times already. I wonder with it has any connection with my criticism of a prolific self-promoter and his alts?

Holy Sputnik!

So one of mine is stuck in the 'slow-posting limbo' as of yesterday, 4 days. Oh well. It does have 70 views by the way, and that surely is not a multiple of 16...

It is good to know that some of my stories will be read by a Rusiian audience. I just hope they get the translations right.
