Average fire fighter pay is 41k...obviously new guys make a bit less and the old timers do a little better but only a few people in these lines of work (law enforcement, firefighter, military) will ever see more than 60k a year. The vast majority of these people are paid just enough to keep them off food stamps, if they stick around and excel they can be lower middle class in 10 or 12 years.

As far as any of these being masculine jobs I never said they were. I said the people in these lines of work are almost all alpha type personalities, you don't get command of a fire truck/team, police squad or a military unit with beta personality traits, it just doesn't happen. And unless you make upper mid level management (commanders, senior NCO's etc) you don't get paid shit.
