Nude Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

{{Babs}} You're welcome! :rose:

I hope my story posts tonight. Anxious.

I'll read. I'll vote. Thanks for the hug. I needed it.

Gees, the ones I've looked at so far are LONNNNNNGGGG. Might take me all week to get through the ones I want to read.

Why can't y'all write a short short story. C'mon!

Aw, more hugs coming your way.

Mine's one of my longest, as well. Hey, it'll give you a chance to sit down, put up your stilettos, sip a drink and relax...and/or write your own short short story. ;)

Just checked my story. had 657 votes and views over 29,000. I consider them views because I know a lot of readers won't read through all seven lit pages. Received 31 comments so far plus a few feedbacks. Not a bad day for such a long story. Thanks to all who take the time to read it.

Those are great numbers, DG, considering they didn't even have the home page updated this morning. You've certainly got a following. Congrats.

I'm thinking that if there weren't so much time in between these special contests, the stories wouldn't be so long.

So, if your story has five Lit. pages, and a reader reads the whole story, doesn't that register as one view or five?

It's not a accounting question. It's a Web site program question. And I've never felt the need of Freddie, most or otherwise. :D

He loves you, Pilot, in his own special way.:D

I think one view of the whole story, gets one view as soon as you open it. One vote on the last page, is one vote in the count.

You're having a hard time believing DG's number, aren't you. He's good! He's got a following.

No, I'm not having trouble believing DG's numbers. That number of votes logically links to that number of views. And DG always attracts a large following.

It just a question I've wondered about.

As for Freddie, you mentioned him to get a rise from me. And I didn't want to disappoint, as you seem to live to stoke that particular fire.

Is anyone else having trouble actually viewing the contest entries, or is it just me?

I was smiling when I wrote it. Does that count for anything?

They fixed the link on the front page to show Nude Day Contest. But here's the link anyway. :)

Well, it was fixed...Now, when you try to open a story, you get the following:

The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable.
Please try again later.

Well, I did, anyway.

You're doing better than I. I only got two comments, 35 votes and 1972 views. I don't have much of a following anymore though.

Yep.

So, if your story has five Lit. pages, and a reader reads the whole story, doesn't that register as one view or five?

Nobody knows. The way views are calculated is even more obscure than the way the sweeps work.

I've done a little experimentation, but the other variables involved ( day of release, whether it makes the midnight posting, whether it hits H early, etc. ) have made it damn near impossible to wrangle any data that's even remotely useful.

As soon as I think I'm on track to get something, a story will post in less than 12 hours after submission and throw a monkey wrench in everything.

( On top of making me scramble to submit to the other site where I post, update my website, my sig links, my mailing list... )

I was away for the weekend. When I looked at my story this evening I found it was the last story on page one. I was rather surprised that a contest story would be the last one on the page. There were only a half dozen contest stories posted when I last looked.

Yes, I usually get a lot of votes and views. Also quite a few comments. They aren't all good comments but that's rather expected. I was just surprised because of the story being as long as it is.

I'm pretty sure a view is if someone clicks on the story. Votes have to be put in after the last page. Comments are self-explanitory.
Good luck all,
DG

Other than accounting software, e-mail, and Microsoft Office, I know very little about computer software and programming. Yet, what I do know about hits or reads is this.

Having posted so very many stories and poems over five years and having watched the hits or reads collect in proportion to those who I knew opened my story or poem, every time someone clicks to open the story it's counted as a read or a hit.

I'm pretty confident that is the way that hits and reads are counted. Someone, such as Scouries and another very famous and high profile writer (not me) could sit at his keyboard and increase his reads and his place on the all time chart by clicking on his story for hours. Indeed, I've watch one gentleman do exactly that, a man who constantly and continually has stories in the top all time 100. I don't have any stories in the top 100. The only story that I have on the all time top chart, I Love You Mommy sits at #171 with 775,000 real not manufactured hits.

Now just as I don't understand how someone would derive pleasure from watching his or her story climb the charts based on his or her own finger, I really don't care. I just write stories.

As far as scores go, my educated guess is this. Whomever Laurel wants to win a contest, guess what, is going to win a contest.

My scores always remain the same. For every 5 vote I get, I receive a bashing 3 vote to make sure that my scores stay around 4.0.

Yet, I'm not here for scores, hits, and contests. I'm here to make myself a better writer. Writing the story is what makes me happy. After that, I'm done and already on to the next story.

With so many scholarly writers and readers on this site, I shall look forward to learning more about how the software here works. I find the dialogue interesting but beyond me.

Good luck to all in the contest.

You do remember that you developed this theory while you were listening to a fraud with delusions of grandeur, don't you?

Sorry but here's another one – this one from our friend DIXIE - from his pic it looks like he’s got another headache. I think both contest threads should share in this - don't you?

Yes, I think it's useful for folks to know you are a fake on any and all threads you post to, Scouries. ;)
