From todays local news.

Hit-run victim: Elderly woman 'didn't look' before driving off to salon

BOYNTON BEACH — Louise Davidson told police she thought she hit a curb as she was leaving the Hunters Run subdivision on her way to the beauty parlor Thursday.

Instead, she hit Matthew Clark, 25, who was riding his scooter along Congress Avenue to his job at the California Pizza Kitchen in Boca Raton.

"She rolled right through the red light making the right hand turn, and either didn't look or didn't see me," said Clark, who lives in Boynton Beach. "I had no time to react and plowed right into her."

Police said that Clark was vaulted off the scooter, onto the windshield and then onto the roadway, though Clark said he doesn't remember exactly what he hit because it happened so quickly, though he said, "it was not fun."

By the time he gained his composure, the silver Toyota was gone. Clark was infuriated.

Davidson told police she thought she hit a curb and did not notice the damage to her car until she arrived at the salon, where she got her hair washed.

While Davidson was having her hair done, firefighters were transporting Clark, who had from bruises all over his body, to Bethesda Hospital.

"She said she thought she hit a curb, which I guess, if she is old and senile that's possible," said Clark. "But there was significant damage to her car. I'm sure she knew what happened and just took off. I have no problem with elderly people in general, but they should be a little more careful on the road and be honest with themselves about whether or not they should be driving."

Davidson was charged with leaving the scene of an injury cash and booked at the Palm Beach County Jail, where she quickly posted the $3,000 bail. She could not be immediately reached for comment.

Clarke has stopped driving the scooter, which he bought a month ago to save money.

"You just cant trust other people on the road," he said.

It's not just in Florida. My father in law had a "little old lady" drive her small car into the side of his 18-wheeler, bounce off and accelerate into it again, straight into the dog box (which is in the middle of the truck). She didn't see it. The poor dog was seriously unimpressed and refused to ride in a dog box ever again.

How the hell can you miss an 18-wheeler stock float?

I belive ya. I have driven in Tampa,FL. Only one other place that really scares me in driving is Atlanta, GA

I like how it says he was vaulted up onto the windshield and then onto the road on the other side of the car but she thought she had hit the curb.

I can believe it.

I was once driving my bike. A woman came to the end of a curved school driveway, looked right at me and pulled out in front of me. I braked in time, barely.

The thing is I was close enough to see her face before she pulled out. I had not impinged upon her consciousness at all. I didn't exist.

I had a guy pull right out infornt of me while I was on my BMW 750 with the lights on. He just eased out into tewo of the three lanes and stopped.

I hit the breaks when I realized that I couldn't swerve because of cars on my right. I started to go down from the rain soaked road and let up on the breaks and hit him just behind the front wheel. I went over the windshield and landed in the street on the other side of him.

I was so pissed at him I jumped up and was about to tell him off when I realized that my right leg was killing me. I had landed on a wad of keys and my leg decided to buckle.

It really tore up my heart to see my beatutiful BMW's bent forks and shattered Fairing.

That about when I decided to quit riding bikes. You are invisible and oh so vernarable.

You are right about being invisible. I've had plenty of close calls. Hell I've done a swerve so sharp that all you could hear was the tire screaming. I made it through though.

Then again I have also dealt with the people who just plain look at bikes as targets. They are the scariest ones. Some people don't think they are out there, they just don't know.

My Nissan was invisible one night. This woman stopped at a stop sign, waited until I was in range, and then pulled out and T-boned my passenger side. I still have no idea what was going through her head, or how my insurance company found me 20% at fault...

I also had someone rear end me because I stopped at a stop sign. Imagine that? Stopping, at a stop sign. How novel and idea?

LOLOL

I have been in two rather novel accidents where it was claimed I was partially at fault.

The first was while driving to work in my Ford Escort. I was stopped at a traffic light when I had a Pick Up filled with illegals rear end me. (Yes they were illegals, they were later deported.) I was the only one at the light, which happened to be on the back side of a hill. They came over the hill at speed and didn't even hit their brakes. I had just enough warning to puch myself back into my seat before I was hit. My car was pushed through the intersection and came to rest alongside a light pole. How the insurance companies determined I was 50% at fault I have never figured out.

The second accident was not to long after that. I was driving a modified 1974 Chevy Impalla. I had a blown out 400 up front. It also had Rail Road Ties aas Bumpers and I had otherwise reinforced the car. (Little things like steel bars in the door panels and Skid Plates underneath.) I had entered a Rotary in Hyannis Mass and was working my way around it when a Corvette came blasting into the Rotary at a high rate of speed. The driver didn't slow down, he just blasted in right in front of me. I ended up T-Boning him and crushing the entire passenger side of his car. The insurance companies held me partialy at fault even though the police report showed he had entered the roatry illegaly and cut me off. (Cars on the rotary have right of way.)
